Nicely executed play. Kazakhstan may not have the ability to dominate play and get sustained offensive zone time at the WJC20 but they're fast and skilled enough to counter attack and actually also finish those plays. Special teams are pretty good, too. You can tell this is a tight and well coached team. I'm not surprised to see them push Germany to their limits and maybe beyond.

Well, I was wrong.

Germany looks like they don't know why they're here. It's like they've checked out mentally, while Kazakhstan is giving a 100% and trying their best.

Kazakhstan is a good team. They went to OT vs Slovakia and didn't go away easily vs Switzerland as well. They're playing solid defensively and they're good and skilled enough to punish you for mistakes. If you wanna wear them down you need sustained pressure while not making too many mistakes.

Kazakhstan came into the game 100 times better prepared. The Germany players appear to struggle with a low morale, disappointed they didn't make it into the QF. By far their worst period in this tournament. Kazakhstan, on the other hand, has been playing its arguably best game so far.

they will come back up should be easily better then any team in div 1a next year if they do go down
What makes you say that the country that is, presumably, losing its place in the elite to Kazakhstan would easily beat Denmark or Norway?

Germany had their sweet little run of high-end talent, just like Denmark did before them, and is now back into the same mix they have been in for decades.

I thought Germany hockey was coming along. Apparently not so much.
It is. One bad tournament doesn't change that. They'll be right back up should they get demoted here. On this team I feel like it's just that too many of their top players aren't performing.

There was a lot of hype about Norwegian teams but they were never as good as that Kazakhstan team. Their teams, even if they performed for 20' or 40' always cracked, went away sooner or later. Kazakhstan actually came back from a deficit vs Slovakia and they always play for 60'. They're playing hard and they have the skill to pull off some very nice plays. They won't go away easily today either. If the Germans wanna win they're gonna have to earn it.

I don't think Kazakhstan is a good team. They are relentless, but they're not very good.

As mentioned earlier, this was the worst period by Germany in the entire tournament. They are slow.

Whenever they got scored on, there was this sudden burst of energy and pressure on Kazakhstan. They have the means to sustain that pressure throughout the game. Their heads are simply not in the game.

Germany still are the favorites to win this one.

A fine shot, but that went straight through the goalie. I didn't think Germany was in a hole after the first, but they are now.

That Kazakhstan team has two advantages over Germany and similar teams. They have forwards who can skate like the wind and they have a goalie who rarely gives up soft goals. So yeah, they're relentless but that's also because they have forwards who can actually skate for 60' plus. They're always dangerous.

On the other side the German top players just aren't performing. Carlos Händel is not doing anything at all. Nico Pertuch who should have been one of the tournament's top goalies has been so bad he didn't even get the start today. Germany can still win but they have to get going now.

to be expected when you believe you are better than relegation. However, Germany better wake up by the end of the 3rd. Kazaks have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Germany winning is still a disappointment to them for having a bad tourney and losing is even worse still. Reminds of the way Team canada plays in Bronze medal games.

They just made it interesting at least, tie game thanks to PPs. Germany most likely takes over now
