He has been pretty bad for NYr. Plus I doubt they plan to resign him so moving him now makes a lot of sense.

If they can get a 2nd for him like what Nashville got for Nyquist that would be amazing.

White towel is waiving. The amusing part is that it game off a game where they actually played well but lost. (Toronto)

This was a stretch of where they had 4 games until the deadline and needed to start with at least 3 wins to avoid the sell. I personally would rather keep the 2026 pick, but maybe they think picking inside the top 13 is better.

He’s not a world beater, but he has not been bad for the Rangers. Hes been exactly as advertised for this stage of his career. Decent middle six winger who can PK.

He doesn’t stand out, but he’s been fine.

Not every trade is about getting a stud. He'd be a fine addition to a team needing a winger on the 3rd line. With retention, that makes it even easier to grab him and another piece if needed.

Waving the white towel isn’t really what’s happening here. This middle course has been the plan since at least December.

He hasn't been bad, he's been what he has been in 3 of the last 5 seasons. A 30-40+ point guy.

Hes also don't this while being bounced around the line up with no real set of line mates.

Would he be a 50+ guy, no, that's no longer in his future, but he's been serviceable.

Should be a solid pick up for a top end team.

But is he worth $5 million for that production? No

That is more telling then playing bad and losing. Everyone can play bad and lose. But if you play well and still lose? It the proof needed to demonstrate that this is not a good team.

I think if they were inside the wild card we don't see these moves take place, regardless of how little impact it has on the team. Drury wanted to make a splash early in the season and it back fired on them. The plan wasn't to just sell all UFA's because guys like Riley Smith aren't players you worry about losing for nothing. Getting further and further away from that wild card spot, Fox getting injured, and watching other teams continue to win definitely pushed them into acknowledging that it's not likely this season.

But is he worth $5 million for that production? No
He's not taking 5M of the cap, or costing any team 5m in salary.

My guess is that Drury thinks they can get back to the playoffs next year. That like last year was like the peak years for a number of them this year almost everyone had a down year. I'd say he's betting that Lafreniere, Trocheck, Fox and Igor will at least revert to some kind of mean and all be better. Improvement might also come from changing out a coaching staff and improving the defense not only personnel wise but structure wise.

If you think like that and the Rangers own history---such as falling far short of expectations in '93 to win the Cup in '94 to almost not make the playoffs in '95 it's not like shit like that can't happen. So keeping an earlier pick in 25 over a later pick in 26 might turn out a net positive. Whatever the case I don't see the Rangers falling even further than they have. Maybe they don't improve much though. The quality of this draft vs. next year's might also be something to think about.

I have the sense as well that this team is embarrassed by the year they've had. What remains of it will have a long summer to think about that......think about and prepare....not come into next year thinking they're world beaters or on the cusp which they clearly weren't. I also think the addition of JT might help us a lot too. This year's Rangers team badly needed an asshole or Alpha personality. I think Trouba and Goodrow have that but their on ice play wasn't up to it anymore.

I'm sure he does. But what I've seen from this team has been so bad. Even finishing 1st last season, we looked bad in a lot of games. I just don't have a lot of trust in him.

It's the same speech every year from them. "We're going to come back even stronger" "We know we have to be better." "We believe in this group." I'm sure they're embarrassed. But I don't see a lot of skill in our prospect pool and we've been talking about sending away the core to improve, which as bad as they've been, are still the only ones producing. Drury has to makes some moves to benefit the team because things aren't looking do good. I'll end the rant here since this is the trade board.
