This past December, however, Boucher pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of third-degree criminal sexual conduct involving sexual penetration with an individual between the ages of 13 and 16 years old.

The victim in this case, who was 12 years old at the time, says Boucher, who was 17 at the time, forced her into oral sex multiple times. On the first occasion, he threatened to release video footage of her dancing, then claimed he would publicize the first encounter to coerce her into a second assault.

From the article. Helps people understand what went down.

Jesus, just awful. What a manipulative scumbag. I wish something would have been done sooner. Always sickens me when you hear about this 11 years later. Imagine waiting over a decade for your assaulter to be brought to justice and watching carve out a professional career (even a mediocre one).

Then there's this little cherry:

According to The Athletic's Katie Strang, a USA hockey spokesperson had the following statement when asked for comment on the matter:
"In March of 2011, we spoke to parents of both minors and there were no accusations made, but Boucher was proactively removed from the billet home. In March of 2021 we were notified by police of allegations of sexual misconduct and have fully cooperated with their investigation."

WTF is broken in the hockey community that seemingly basic actions on sexual assault can't be taken?

Dude gets off SCOTT FREE.

He blackmailed a 12 year old for sexual favors as a 17 year old. Even if he was young, it's hard to imagine him being much different now if he's never once tried to reconcile with the victim. What a shame.

Not to mention US hockey just sweeping it under the rug like it's no big deal.

People made excuses for him? I mean how can you make excuses for someone who plead guilty.

No. You can go read the other thread. No one made excuses for what he did nor did anyone "defend" him, and I think both threads you will find a unanimous declaration that this was a heinous crime that is absolutely 100% unacceptable.

This thread will be closed when the troglodytes start making excuses for him, just like in the thread yesterday. Its embarrassing we can't even reach a consensus on something like this...

I highly doubt that happens as this is pretty black and white here but maybe you are confusing it with something else?

I don't think so. From the article:

Boucher, who spent time with the NHL's Devils, Vancouver Canucks and Nashville Predators, is due back in court for sentencing Jan. 31.

Let's wait to see what happens there. I doubt the judge says "Nah, it's cool bra, go live your life".

Maybe the most unsettling thing about this is that it doesn’t seem like the sort of a behavior that a person would grow out of.

Probably not unless they get treatment but the big problem here is that this type of behavior has been all too prevalent in sports for a long time.

Also I know nothing about billeting but having a 17 year old male hockey player and a 12 year old girl in the same house might be something that gets looked at?

Ideally having billets with older children than the player is a better situation right?

Last thread said something like community service and if he's good for a certain period of time nothing really happens.
