And if this was last week having a ton of cap space would make sense. There’s not much left worth spending a ton of money on. At that point they’re looking for a hockey trade and Detroit has nothing to bring to the table.

If we can get Ekblad, would love it. Florida isn't going to give him away. 28 year old former 1st overall pick, fresh of a championship. Seems like a pipe dream unless it was a dramatic overpayment. If the current NHL has shown anything, it's that the top teams will find ways to get their guys signed and find the cap space.

The smoke around the deal was it seemed they wanted to keep Montour. But his contract in Seattle was one Florida could have inked and worked out the minimal cap shuffle over the summer.

They’re either looking to make a hockey trade which Detroit has nothing to offer or they’re looking for futures, which Detroit shouldn’t be a part of because that juice isn’t worth the squeeze.

I don't recall seeing anything about Ekblad last week. I believe this is all stemming from a rumor that was brought up yesterday on the NHL network and then also this Pagnotta dude.

Both of which are within the last 24 hours.
