Online Series: Reacher (season 2 Dec 15 2023)

Episode 4 is pretty much a flashback, which is a narrative change from the first two seasons where the parceled them out.
It's also a change from the novel, which drip fed that backstory throughout the main story. I'm kind of glad that they didn't do that, since I don't think that it was executed well in Season 2. I didn't like how the flashback was executed here, either, but at least it's over.

I just binged the Righteous Gemstones and they do a pure flashback episode once a season, which fills in the gaps.

Of course there’s the other extreme where Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul Call Saul had so few flashbacks Gilligan might as well put a flashing sign on the screen that said “Iceberging!”

Have not read the books. So can’t compare the 2. Not sure what to make of the relationship between Reacher and Duffy. Seems forced on the tv show. But not sure how it was portrayed in the book.

In the book, Duffy gets along better with her teammates and Reacher and their hook up is more natural. For the show, they gave her an attitude, made her seem harder to work with and made her relationship with Reacher more awkward.

Edit: This Forbes review that I just read brings up some of this and a few other things that don't work as well as they did in the book. I agree pretty much 100% with him.

Even with how disappointing Season 2 was, more people returned for Season 3 than returned for Season 2 of The Rings of Power. This is also a franchise that most people didn't know or care about until 3 years ago versus a franchise that everyone knows and loves.

ROP doesn’t have a lead strong as Ritchson which is the series biggest asset.

Complete filler episode

Lame
I just finished it and didn't care for it, either. It reminded me too much of S2, with Reacher being around his "team" the whole time, and just about none of it was from the book. The show writers just made up a bunch of stuff to fill an episode, and it wasn't good. One egregious bit was Reacher being allowed into a high level ATF meeting, in full view of the hard-nosed director the entire time, and not being asked who he was and why he was in the room until after the meeting was over. Things like that really hurt the believability.

I liked:
* The amount of action. It certainly made up for the previous episode.
* The fight with Paulie, even though it was different and over the top compared to the book.
* That Reacher defeated him by using his smarts rather than just his fighting skills... though I'm not sure that it was a great plan, as he could've died just as easily.

I didn't like:
* That Reacher was fully supported by a team, especially Neagley, who wasn't even in the book. In the book, he crashed the party and rescued Teresa alone.
* That the writers made a martyr out of a gun runner who equipped drug dealers and organized crime. In the book, he was a bad guy, not a sympathetic one.
* That a gun runner in an office full of loaded, working guns would grab the toy gun and that it would fall apart in his hand. That was really silly and cartoonish.

My favorite part of the season was when Reacher blew up the house by sticking a bunch of things that aren't supposed to go in the microwave into the microwave

Overall, enjoyed this season. Not as good as S1, but better than S2. A little bit more realistic, though some stuff is a bit of a stretch still.
