I seen this and it killed me, go through the replies and see how many heads this joke went over

Good. Trade them Clifford, Holl, and Mrazek for Makar, and let them sign Blackwell, Mikheyev, Lyubushkin, and Campbell.

They would still be more likely to win the Cup next year.

Word.... do you think if both cities swapped rosters that the Colorado Maple Leafs would get through the 1st round and the Toronto Avalanche would lose in the 1st round then? and its a joke about all the Leafs need is the Avs lineup its just a dumb joke man

If they swapped players but not management and coaches, I could see that.

But yes, obviously it was a joke, and obviously I was guilty of piling on. Which doesn't mean there might not be a grain of truth in it.

Mikheyev has four points in 19 career playoff games – all of which came in this past playoff – and two of those four points were empty-net goals. Kerfoot has one even-strength goal in 19 playoff games as a Leaf and three total even-strength playoff goals in 37 career playoff games. You could argue a case for getting rid of more than just Mikheyev this summer.

Brodie is great?, Muzzin when healthy is an excellent shutdown d-man with some offense?, Giordanno is just 2 years from being the NHL's best d-man?, Rielly is an exceptional offensive d-man, yah so, all of these d-men are aging out , declining even and TO couldn't win with them when they were younger/better but I don't blame TO's poor playoff record on these players, then or now, TO's d was good enough to win over the previous years yet it's TO's d that management keeps wanting to improve year after year.

TO's inability to win in the playoffs has been the support forwards beyond the core 4, year after year, Johnsson, Kapanen, Kerfoot, Mikeyev, Kadri(suspensions) haven't been good enough to concern the opposition so choke out the top 4 and TO is done.

Giordano was a nice add, I guess, but Giroux was the type of player TO needed, this year and in the past. He's not needed all year but in the playoffs, yes, TO isn't going to win all their playoff games against teams that can't score against them.

C #1: Auston Matthews (11.6 million)
C #2: John Tavares (11.0 million)
RW #1: Mitch Marner (10.9 million)

What a poorly constructed team.

Unfortunately, Tavares would be a player that might be moved, but has a NMC.

I'd bet very few would entertain any offer to move the other two regardless of return (outside of Makar/McDavid).

So most fans are happy enough to live with the fall-out and blame management.

Bingo.

So moving the players isn't an option?
Not with Dubas. Nylander would be an option but Dubas won't go there. Marner could be an option too, but it would have to be a ridiculous return. But again, Dubas is too stuck in his ways with all of that success he's had

Maybe Tavares comes into camp down 10 pounds and quicker?

They really need someone from their prospects to show they can skate and stand up.

After setting a franchise record for points in the regular season, before making their same routine exit in round one, I find myself interested in seeing one more run with this core, provided some coaching and roster changes are made in an attempt to get the mix right. I'd love to hear everyone's plan in depth. Here is mine...

Trade Them
Alexander Kerfoot (3.5 million)
Jake Muzzin (5.6 million)
Justin Holl (2.0 million)
Petr Mrazek (3.8 million)

Let Them Walk / Retire
Ilya Mikheyev (1.6 million)
Ondrej Kase (1.25 million)
Jason Spezza (750k)

Re-sign Them
Mark Giordano (1× 1.0 million)
Jack Campbell (3x 4.0 million)
Ilya Lyubushkin (2× 2.0 million)
Timothy Liljegren (3x 3.0 million)
Rasmus Sandin (2x 1.5 million)
Colin Blackwell (1x 900k)
Pierre Engvall (2x 1.75 million)

New Money
Phil Kessel's cap retention (1.2 million)
Salary cap increase (1.0 million)

Roster Forwards
C #1: Auston Matthews (11.6 million)
C #2: John Tavares (11.0 million)
C #3: David Kampf (1.5 million)
C #4: Addition
RW #1: Mitch Marner (10.9 million)
RW #2: William Nylander (7.0 million)
RW #3: Addition
RW #4: Colin Blackwell (900k)
LW #1: Addition
LW #2: Michael Bunting (900k)
LW #3: Pierre Engvall (1.75 million)
LW #4: Addition
13th Forward: Wayne Simmonds (900k)
14th Forward: Kyle Clifford (763k)

Roster Defense
LD #1: Morgan Rielly (7.5 million)
LD #2: Mark Giordano (1.0 million)
LD #3: TJ Brodie (5.0 million)
RD #1: Addition
RD #2: Timothy Liljegren (3.0 million)
RD #3 Ilya Lyubushkin (2.0 million)
7th Dman: Rasmus Sandin (1.5 million)

Roster Goalies
Jack Campbell (4.0 million)
Addition

Total estimated Cap Hit: 71.2 million
Total remaining Salary Cap: 11.3 million

- IMO, this team needs to add a physical, top 6, power forward to play alongside Matthews and Marner, allowing Bunting to slide down to the 2nd line, where he would be a natural fit. I would expect this forward to cost in the $3.0-4.0 million range.

- IMO, this team requires a long term, steady, shutdown partner for Morgan Rielly. A natural RHD that will allow Brodie to play further down the lineup.

- There are numerous players in the system, on ELCs, that should get an opportunity to cheaply fill out some of the bottom 6 roster spots. The 5 names that come to mind include Nick Robertson, Nick Abruzzese, Joey Anderson, Pontus Holmberg and Alex Steeves. I expect at least 2 of those players will make the opening day roster in 2022.

- I think that Toronto will likely stick with Jack Campbell in goal, unless someone unexpected comes available. That said, it's imperative that Mrazek is replaced, with a cheap, solid backup, who has played meaningful games in the NHL. I'm expecting Campbell to cost a little bit of money, therefore, I'd hope that the backup comes in under $2.0 million.

- If the correct addition is made to the defense core, I really like the group on paper. Not only do I think the mix is right, I love the 7 man depth of that group, allowing some of the guys in the system to keep cooking and Sandin to rotate in regularly, keeping everyone fresh. I'd hope the addition they make costs between $3.0-$4.0 million and is a natural RHD.
Lol !!!

Bunting - Matthews - Marner
Robertson - Tavares - Nylander
ZAR - Domi - Kase
DesLauriers - Kampf - Anderson

Clifford - Simmonds

Rielly - Liljegren
Gio - Brodie
Muzzin - Sandin/Lyubushkin

As much as I want Gibson I can’t see Dubas giving the assets to bring him in.

Domi coming to Toronto makes too much sense and, with the quality of free agent forwards this season, I can see him signing here on a cap friendly contract.

I think Kase can be resigned to the same contract and if he gets hurt again can just go on the LTIR.

Hope things can be worked out with Sandin and if he is moved it is for a roster player coming back. I would love a Sandin + Mzarek + 1st for Gibson deal but I don’t think Dubas would bring in that much salary in goal.

of course its an option, I wouldnt bet on it though. Best contract to move is Nylander, Doubt Dubas does that though. Tavares contract would be tough to move and im sure a lot of people wouldnt like the deal coming back if Tavares waived.

I don't think anyone would expecting anything coming back for Tavares.

When you trade away a lot of your draft picks and prospects - this becomes a problem.

You're right though, they really need one or two young guys to come into camp and basically force their way onto the team. When is the last time that happened? I'm not sure who it would be, doesn't really matter, it just needs to be someone.
