I was surprised by 48% because 10 years ago, there were still 70% of selected players playing in CHL. But the number has collapsed over the past decade even though there has been a surge in 2020 because of the Covid.

The sum of the players is not good because the total among the nations you mention is 956. Canadian players now represent only 40%. 8 years ago they were still in the majority. And despite the favorable Covid situation, they were only 33.8% among the players selected for the 2020 draft. 32.3% in 2019; 33.6% in 2018.

Currently, Nemec can be estimated as a top 10 prospect. As already said, if he was born in 2003, he would already be selected in the 1st round, probably top 20. If he has a very bad season next year, he may fall to the lowest end of the 1st round.
I think you underestimate the player a lot.

Here's roughly my current top 32 for 2022 taking into account that players who haven't played this season live up to their reputation.

Nemec is 9th but he is the player with whom there is the most sample to evaluate with Jiricek.

As you can see, I really haven't undervalued the North American players compared to the drafts of the last few years.
Great list! Personally thought Jiricek was more impressive at WJC but then again I’m no pro scout. Appreciate all your input.

I don't pretend to be an expert. Simply an enthusiast.

For several years I have been trying to classify prospects.

I learn every year. I haven't seen all the players on the list but I know their background and I have some idea of their performance.

Jiricek was born in 2003 and therefore has one more year of hockey. I find it really very strong. More than Nemec today? Hard to say. But it holds the comparison it is obvious.

Recently, in other discussions, I've come across opinions that Nemec should be called to the men's national team in the current season (at least, for prep games before WC). It made me think if it wouldn't be too early for him. I wonder what do you think about this?

I think it’d be great for him. Nothing to lose, really. He’s been playing against men for a long time and now has experience against the best U20s in the world as well. The coach just needs to really emphasize that there are absolutely no expectations. Just tell him “soak it all in, have fun out there” and that’s it. Make sure bad performances don’t impact his confidence. I don’t think it’d be a problem and think he could actually do really well too.

My point is very simple : the best players available must play.

If the Olympics were to be contested this month, the best 8 would be Chara, Cernak, Sekera, Marincin, Jaros, Fehervary, Cajkovsky, Gernat.

But only Cajkovsky and Gernat will be available for the tournament.

The following are much less strong and very few play in the best European leagues.

Nemec seems to have come back very strong from the WJC. If he emerges as the best Slovakian defender playing in Slovakia, regardless of his age (17), he must be selected.

Today, I would tend to say yes. Nemec is your showcase. Slovakia must send a strong message: we are back soon with a new generation.

With the current veterans, Slovakia is not going anywhere. There is a qualifying tournament for the Olympic Games in August 2021.

Nemec is progressing very quickly and needs adversity to progress. Soon the Slovak championship will not be tough enough for him. He would improve enormously playing senior international competitions.

Sooner Nemec gains experience, sooner he will establish himself as the leader of the new generation for the 2026 Olympic Games

When do Nitra play Nove Zamsky? Would like to see how Nemec and Clarke perform playing against each other

So how did Nemec compare with Clarke in last nights game?
To me, Nemec seems like the more "mature" player who makes safer plays. Clarke is more offensive and tries to dangle more, but is not as used to men hockey as Nemec. They look more or less equal in terms of talent, hard to pick one of them. I like Clarke's attitude tho, you often see him talking to the slovak teammates and has good influence of the team which is nice from a 17 yo. kid coming to an unknown territory

Simon recorded two assists in today 5-3 win against Poprad. He has 14 points after 27 games so far.

If he is doing that at his age he has to move elsewhere for next season ( Sweden, Finland, Czech Republic )

With these two points, he surpassed Erik Cernak in productivity in his D season, while the Nemec is year younger in D-1 season. And also, the Slovak league is today one level higher than it was in the season 14/15 when it was in terms of quality at the bottom. Anyway, a great season for Simon Nemec. As for points as well as for performances. I am starting to think more and more that it will be better for him to stay next season in Slovakia than to go to one of the CHL leagues. We see in Brendt Clarke that if the player is a great talent, scouts have no problem watching him in an unattractive league as the Slovak league has been for the last decade.

He is at a bit more than .5 ppg, if at next year he is say at .75 ppg in Slovak Extraliga as an 18 year old then I don't think if he is being challenged enough. Of course stats don't mean everything but I think he should look for the next step even if he struggles a bit next season with the adjustment. Seider was at .2 ppg in his draft year and went 6th overall. The DEL was a difficult challenge for him but he still showed well. Even Dahlin, Hedman, and Heiskanen although solid, did not dominate in their draft years. A good pro mens league shouldn't be too easy offensively for a 17/18 year old defenceman unless you are generational.

Can anyone shed light on the level of hockey in this league? Is it comparable to NCAA..or ECHL..?? ..or??

He said that he is very likely to stay in Nitra for the next season.
That’s interesting. Very unusual but we’ve seen the same work out for German prospects lately.

Do you have an article or something to the interview (assuming this information is from an interview)?

Probably a bit better than ECHL? And better than any junior league of course

He said it in a slovak podcast here
