RD Sam Rinzel - Univ of Minnesota , NCAA (2022, 25th, CHI)

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Not really sure what you're talking about, but in any event, it's all a hypothetical. As a rebuilding team with a youth movement, with Seth Jones multi-year commitment gone, only 1 veteran RHD in the org in Murphy whose contract expires after 2025-26, the Blackhawks would be a good fit for Rinzel who would make the NHL roster if he's ready with less concern about them running off to sign veterans to fill his spot. His only real long-term competition is Levshunov and then you have a guy like Crevier with a lower ceiling. So there's little reason to think Rinzel would be angling for the Free Agent game if the Blackhawks would like to sign him which they very likely would.
I'm not speaking whatsoever to whether or not he would want to nor if it would make sense. Just calling out that he has the easy option to him to become a free agent next summer and go wherever he wants should he want to.

It's quite rare for high end players to be in this situation in the first place and even more rare for them to go through with it.

Steven Ellis reported that that Red Wings passed on Chase Bradley's rights (didn't make a bonafide offer?) so I'm not sure you're right here. It's a bit of a confusing scenario but it's generally tied to August 15th.

Don’t really care for the previous 3 guys.
Cal Petersen was the only highly touted one, and still not as hyped to hit FA as Wheeler and Schultz were.

It's just incredibly rare for 1st rounders to play a year in the USHL after being drafted. He was an odd birthday, VERY old for his grade and so he went USHL for 12th grade.

5 with him going to the Ushl first
No. Blake Wheeler example that @Bonin21 provided is correct. Chicago CAN hold Rinzel's rights until 2027 if he goes back to Minnesota for his senior year, but because 2026 IS 4 years after the 2022 Draft, Rinzel is UFA eligible August 15 2026 if he withdraws from Minnesota after his junior year. This is really simple stuff lol.

Puckpedia and CapWages have Rinzel's "sign by date" at Aug 15, 2027. Scroll to the bottom of the page to find the reserve non-roster list. Usually, when prospects to go to the USHL first and then college, their "sign by date" extends until the fourth year of college, which the aim is to earn a degree at college. Of course, NCAA prospects can opt out early.
