Because of their 1st name?

Yes. Very similar.

Plus there's the whole "Dallas Mavericks" thing.

Honestly, how many variations of the first name Maverick have there been in the NHL? Can't imagine there's too many, if at all, and idea that the only two would be drafted by a Texas-based team is just funny to me.

Lamoureux is out 6 months with a shoulder injury that he carried throughout the season. Just got surgery last week I think.

You've got to wonder how much it affected his game this year considering he is a very physical type of player.

I don't know how a 6'7 player gets overlooked, but I haven't seen him properly ranked yet.

Lamoureux has as good of a gap game as you're going to get in a prospect. Obviously he had the size and reach, but his 1-step quickness/agility is impressive. And he moves laterally just as well, so trying to get by him along the boards is just as difficult.

He started pinching and jumping in to the play more as the season went on, and seemed to have good instincts to choose his openings and the skating to cover his mistakes.

Add to that, he still has about 40 pounds to add to his frame by the time he fully matures, and the upside looks very high.

I like your assessment of him. Where would you rank him in this draft?

Also what do you think his upside is in nhl? Chara?

There's not many potential comparables for guys this size. But Lamoureux is as mobile as former 1st roudners like Tyler Myers and Jamie Oleksiak, I beleive he has a more advanced defensive game in his draft year than both, and shows more upside offensively than Oleksiak at least. I wouldn't be so bold to compare him to Chara, plus Chara wasn't that mobile at the same age.

If you look at some recent bigger D that have been drafted like Alex Vlasic, Tyler Kleven, Ben Rogers, Maveric looks further along at the same age and has better tools than all of them.

I would expect him to get drafted in the first round.
