RD Landon Dupont - Univ. of Michigan, NCAA (2027 Draft)

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
Do you seriously expect Landon DuPont to stay there 3 years after he’s drafted 1st overall?

We’re talking about HOCKEY player Landon DuPont after all
there's 0 logic in that head. No matter what school no high NHL draft pick is going for the education, it's to develop as fast as possible to turn pro. Now if it's a late round pick who's undersized yeah they'll go 4 years for the education then maybe try pro hockey in Europe for a little bit before starting their actual careers they went to school for

Michigan had 14 NHL drafted players on their team last season. Fewer than half of those players will complete 4 years before turning pro. If every one of the remaining players on that team graduates, 74% is the number for that roster. The bigger the program, the lower the graduation rate. Cost of super teams.

Definitely not.

Good teams? Sure.
Stacked teams? In comparison to Michigan's roster? No chance.

When I mean stacked - I mean with players who put up a lot of points (to boost draft status).
If your bar is a historically pedigreed (I won’t even say good given how often we’ve seen these exact kind of Michigan teams flame out) Michigan squad then sure, I don’t think it’s a very useful bar though

No high-profile D-1 NCAA player is going to a team that isn’t stacked to some degree

Michigan is the favourite to win it all next year. They're by far the most stacked team at the moment.
I was talking about last season in regards to McKenna
Now do the percentage of hockey recruits. Not 99%, lol.
The initial statement was that athletes don’t go to Michigan to become lawyers. And that is what I was responding to. Mens hockey makes up about 3% of the athletic dept

Did I ever say that? You are the one that said athletes don’t go to Michigan for the academics. Which is blatently false

Sorry.. ATHLETE (DuPont, you know the guy whose thread this is?) isn’t going to Michigan for academics since he will be a 1 and done. Obviously I don’t care about football or any other hockey player since we’re very clearly talking about Landon DuPont here.

Better?

Wanted to go to the best hockey team he could for this coming season. Just won a WHL title and had a great 16 year old year now trying to help Michigan win another title and team Canada at the world juniors and be one of the most accomplished defencemen to enter the NHL as a teenager.

Hope this helps!

Haha then you shouldn't have said "Don’t think any athlete goes to Michigan to become a lawyer"

Landon DuPont will take a fly fishing course just like Gavin McKenna, just another stepping stone to get to the NHL.

Kind of common sense we’re talking about Landon DuPont here

Did you think Penn State was the favourite to win last year? They've never won in their history.
Prior to the season starting, yes, they actually were the favorite to win the NCAA tournament. These were the Vegas odds before the puck dropped for the 25-26 season:

Penn State +550
Boston University +600
Michigan State +800
Michigan +1000

Yeah, because Gavin McKenna went there and everyone expected him to carry them.

Now compare their roster to Michigan's next year and you'll see the difference. Michigan is going to have what 7? 8? 1st round picks?

Penn State had 2, including McKenna.

Good thing first round picks don't win you national championships.

Over the past 5 years there has been ONE 1st round pick on a national championship winning team. Buium with Denver in 2023.

Stockpiling young, potentially great players, has historically never ended well for NCAA teams. Eventually the CHL fans will start understanding this.

Lots of people read that comment and knew what he meant and that he wasn't slagging the school, stop being so defensive most people don't always talk directly and language is like music, extremely varied and more complex than meets the eye.
