RD Ian Moore - San Diego, AHL (2020, 67th, ANA)

Limited to 21 games due to injury in what was a tough season for Harvard. He was a junior captain.

Any news on next season yet?

With the exception of Cornell, both the NILs and the transfer portal have had a huge impact on the Ivy League schools and their ability to compete with the rest of the ECAC.

Harvard supposedly put a lot of money into NIL last year and are really pushing to make up the gap they have in scholarship and NIL dollars in other schools. Wouldn’t surprise me to see him stay

That is news since Ivy League schools were technically non-scholarship in the past.

Unless Harvard is different than the other Ivies or things have changed, the portal is also a disadvantage - players leave but the Ivy League does not accept transfers.

They're still "non-scholarship" but the word is the NIL is trying to make up the difference for a lot of kids who won't receive much or any financial aid/grants. I think my first post was worded poorly

Played 7 games in ahl so far, has 5 points and a +3. Has looked pretty damn good, I think he’ll get a couple games in the NHL to end the season.

Solberg also has 4 points in his first 7 games, don’t expect him to see nhl time until next year tho.

Anaheim going to have to make some decisions on the back end soon.

Very surprised by his offence in the AHL so far as a keeper league owner of his. Reminds me a bit of the John Marino case, he also went to Harvard and did not produce all that much in his final 2 years there. Marino was stuck behind Fox and Walsh on that Harvard team, while there was not really competition to that level blocking Moore from offensive opportunities.

Gotta think the Ducks will give him an ELC before long.

I don't know what the heck the Ducks will do with all of these guys, but Moore is another who looks like a lock to at least be an NHLer in some capacity. He just has too much going for him, honestly I think he's gonna better than Helleson (who has impressed this year)

He has more upside than helleson imo…. Helleson seems like a solid 3rd pairing guy… moore imo has top 4 upside…. And is prob nhl ready next season… and solberg is right behind him.

Verbeek said at a season ticket holder event prior to his college season ending that he would be signed and play NHL games before the end of the season. It's strange he's still in San Diego on an ATO with the way he's been playing.

Oh 100% I think we did a similar thing with colangelo last year with the ATO.

He’s a smart two way guy, right now the depth chart of young guys is pretty nice, specially with lacombe showing top pair upside

Lacombe Luneau
Mintyukov Helleson
Zellweger Moore
Solberg Warren
Hinds

W/ guys like t smith, k smith, dioncicio and port also having some potential (t smith most notably)

Also won’t be shocked if we’re drafting in the 8-10 slot, if Mrtka is our pick

Harvard was going through a rebuild of talent for the past two seasons. Ducks' GM Verbeek asked if the Harvard coaches would allow Moore to be play more of an offensive role with the team, but the Harvard coach was dead set on Moore playing a shutdown role for the team as its RD1.

In Moore's first two seasons with Harvard, he was showing signs of offense. He scored 15 points as a rookie and 19 points in his sophomore season, when the team had a lot of talent on the team.

With San Diego, he's been given the green light to play a two-way game instead of just a shutdown role. His speed is a key determinant on how far he can go at the NHL level. LaCombe and Zellweger's best traits are their skating.

if you had told me we signed 2 of our 3 senior college defensemen (Thrun, LaCombe, Moore) I would have called bullshit.

Glad we signed him. He has an opportunity to have a major role after just one year in the AHL.
