So did Stefan Elliot on his way to a Bill Hunter Trophy...hopefully Bear will have a much better NHL career. Overage junior numbers always have to be taken with a grain of salt.

While you're right that there's no guarantee Bear even becomes an NHL player, the poster you quoted said nothing about his projection as an NHL player, just that it was no surprise he won the WHL award. Neither of those players played an overage year in junior though. 21 is overage, both of those players played their draft+2 in the only league they were allowed to play in outside the NHL in NA. Neither were old enough to be allowed to play AHL.

2 goals, 5 assists, 7 points in 3 playoff games. Doing so without Barzal.

Last year in the playoffs he went 8 goals, 22 points in 18 games so could be enroute to another great playoffs.T-Birds are rolling without Barzal and Gropp pretty quite (kolesar setting up big time). If these 4 can get rolling they could make serious noise

Not a surprise, very underrated prospect.

Another 2 points, what an animal. I wonder what the most recent scoring record for WHL D in playoffs? Genuinely curious. Hell be over 2 ppg after this game

Brayden McNabb 19 games 3-24-27 in 2010-2011?

Best one by a D is Troy Mick in 1988-1989 with 34 pts in 19 games.

Still grinds my gears that he wasn't even given a look-see for Team Canada at the World Juniors.

From the beginning of last season (including playoffs) he has 166 points in his last 158 games, or 1.05 PPG.

There are CHL forwards taken in the first and 2nd rounds in the same draft year (2015) with lesser production, such as DeBrusk, Merkley, Stephens, on par with Senyshyn and his teammate Gropp.

Really impressive, what this kid's done. It'll be interesting to see how much of his offensive game he can carry over to the AHL.

There was also Derrick Pouliot 21 games 5-27-32 in 2013-14.

I think this is doable *if keeps it up*. Barzal will be coming back and that line seems to pump in the points. He already has a healthy point total without Barzal.

I wonder how far theyll go if theyve already made quick work of T-Birds without their best player

Believed to have a broken hand or finger/fingers from a blocked shot in game 3. Didn't play game 4 and was waiting to see the doctors back in Seattle to see whats up(returned back to Seattle after game in Kelowna last night). Will be a MASSIVE loss if he's out longterm. Huge loss even missing any time at all.

He was missed extremely bad last night

He's not overage. Bear is eligible to return next year as an overage. He won't, but he's eligible.

He's one hell of a player and an even nicer kid. You simply won't meet a more polite and grounded young man.

Although I see he's listed as a d-man on hockeydb, and other sources as well, Troy Mick played exclusively as a forward when he was drafted out of the WHL (perhaps he got to play the point on the PP sometimes)

His final junior season he scored 60 goals (vs 53 assists).

NHL.com lists him as a LW.

Ya it's a broken hand... what a disaster that is for him and the Seattle Thunderbirds. Out indefinitely

the offensive game was ugly in game 4 without him. Nothing was clicking on the PP. He is a massive part of this team and it definitely showed last game.

Horrible timing

Brutal news. I've watched Bear and the T-Birds alot in the playoffs and was looking forward to them potentially making a run at the Memorial Cup, very unlikely without Bear.

For those wanting a look at Bear, here is a Shift by Shift from game one of this series:

It's a long one, Bear played north of 26 minutes in this game. So if you just want a taste of his abilities go to the 33:20 mark.

Ya without Bear, i dont see Seattle getting past Kelowna now.... Yes hes that much of a game changer

Wins the WHL Defenseman of the year award

expected... very impressive for a kid that was to be a sure fire high 1st round pick in his WHL draft but unfortunately dropped to the 2nd round for certain reasons.... way to stick it to everyone Ethan!!!

The Thunderbirds move on to the Memorial Cup and Bear finishes with 6-20-26 in just 17 games. 1-9-10 in the final.

Heres some other stuff on Bear (all rankings are just for D)

PP goals: 14, 2nd most in league behind Quenville
% of teams goals: 11% #1 in WHL. Hobbs is second at 8.93%. Jones at 8th
% of teams points: 10%, #1 in WHL
Even strength goals: 14, 3rd
Even strength points: 38, #5
Primary points: 52, 2nd for D, 3rd had 45
Game winning goals (random I know): 9 most in league for D
First goals: 8, most for D

Some other things, Hobbs had 2 130 point scores on his team, Bear had Barzal (79) and Gropp (84). Pats lead the league in goals with 353, Seattle 103 behind at 250. Which really makes Bears point totals stick out as he did so on lower scoring team

Hobbs will get D of the year but Bears year is really impressive

Hobbs doesn't deserve it over Bear, no chance in hell. Hobbs had a better offensive season but Bear is the most complete dman in the Dub. He was used in every situation and was relied on way more than Hobbs was relied on by Regina.

;)

congrats to Bear, well deserved

Hopefully someone makes a highlight pack of his year. My only viewing of him was at the Oiler rookie game a few years ago, I didn't notice him that much then.

I'll be tuning into his games in the memorial cup for sure.

Of my viewings of his this season his highlight package would consist of a ton of beautiful breakout passes, him QBing the PP (especially when Barzal was absent), and a ton of beautiful wrist shots and one-timers from the point. His offensive tools are impressive. The only concern is skating and strength at this point. Jones is the safer pick between the two due to Jones' size and skating combo (reminds me of Keith stylistically). If there's some hope for Bear its that a guy like Shattenkirk has done great despite being an average skater and not overly big or strong.
