I'm kind of expecting Bear to be a bottom-pairing, PP specialist type of guy in the NHL. Anything more than that would be gravy.

Has anyone watched this kid this year? I see he is putting up the points. Does he have a realistic shot at ever making the big club? Would be nice to hear some input on him, as he seems to never get talked about regardless of the fact he is leading WHL defenseman in points this year.

Anyone that's watched a bunch of Seattle this year, how's our boy Bear looked overall? His numbers are definitely trending north with a bullet.

Can anybody chime in on how's he been performing lately?

Bear finished out the regular season with the following:

69G, 19-46-65, 33 PIM, +14. Good for 5th in defence scoring in the league.

With Seattle scoring 228 goals, Bear factored into 28.5% of the goals the Thunderbirds scored this year.

For comparison's sake, Provorov factored into 22.8% of Brandon's goals, Nielsen factored into 23% of Lethbridge's, and Sanheim factored into 27.6% of Calgary's.

Most reports have him being pretty solid in his own zone as well.

Bear is a legit prospect, one of the biggest risers of the 2015 draft, and should be a near-lock for Team Canada next year.

Update on Bear,

9, 3-6-9, +10 so far in the playoffs, tied for first among defencemen scoring. The guy just continues to impress.

Where would he go in a re-draft? 2nd round? Low 1st round?

honestly cant see him being a 1st... id say late 2nd/early 3rd he could sneak into. Really awesome player and have seen him a lot over the years but his pro potential I still question for some reason. I don't know why, but I keep thinking it will be tough for him to be a full time NHLer

Can't wait to watch him QB that Canadian PP next year at the WJHC

He tore up the PP in WHL. 1st in goals for WHL D, 1st in primary points, 1st in PP points

I was hoping he woulda been there this season, but next year he will forsure

Would have been nice if he was there for sure. I don't think he was good enough though, especially since Hicketts was a lock. Anyone have any predictions on what the top 6 d will look like next year for Canada? I really only follow the WHL.

I know Bean is most likely a lock, Clague could push for a spot as well.

I am surprised at the little amount of talk about Bear on here. Especially due to the fact he is drafted to a team that is usually fairly outspoken on HFboards. Had a VERY good regular season and has turned it up even more in the playoffs with 15 points in 13 games(currently WHL leading point getter amongst Dmen) including a 2g. 1a. night last night in a series clinching game. His team is off to the WHL finals now awaiting the winner between Brandon and Red Deer.

Usually Oiler fans are quite excited and vocal about their good prospects but for whatever the reason Bear is flying under the radar on here. IMO he should be one of the guys that fans are most excited about.

6 goals 15 points in 13 playoff games. Leading WHL and OHL D in goals and points. Only 4 points back of Barzal (and one more goal)

Would be surprised to see him as WHL playoff MVP if Seattle wins it

I think Oiler fans havent seen a performance like this so not sure how to react

He'd be tied with Andersson for the OHL lead as well - in less games.

I've watched the last 3 Seattle games and come away so, so impressed with Bear. His hockey sense is just incredible. There was one play the game before last when he scored the GWG - he received the pass on his left skate, tapped it to himself behind his back to his right (shooting) side, and fired a quick wrister that snuck through - all within about a second.

We're not used to having exciting D prospects who are actually properly staying in junior.

I like Bear a lot, just wonder about his size and skating for the pros.

Still, lots of positive arrows here for sure.

Why would we talk about our prospects when we get **** on for daring to?

I'll be paying attention to Bear during the WHL finals against Brandon.

We don't seem to hype our prospects as much as everyone seems to think we do. A decade+ of poor drafting has made us cautious.

8 goals 21 points in 17 games this playoffs. Leading Seattle in goals and only 3 behind barzal for points. Leading all Chl D for points as well. Seattle down 3-1 to Brandon but lost 3 in ot and 2 on fluke goals

Outstanding performance by him

2nd best playoff performance by a WHL defenceman in the last 5 years, 2nd only to Derrick Pouliot who put up ridiculous numbers on a stacked Winterhawks team.

Chia looks like a genius right now for snagging Jones, Bear, and Paigin.

Looks like having brazal back injected into the line up has given a big boost to bear.

Currently sitting with 10 goals 24 points in 25 games

anyone that watches him regularly that can comment on his shot

does he have a booming shot? or a good wrister?

From the game I saw and the few highlights I've seen, I wouldn't use the word booming, but he doesn't have a pretty good slapper and wrister

Oh okay thanks, If he was able to develop a good one timer and hard slapshot he would be prefect for the pp with mcdavvvy one day
