What if… instead… hear me out… all of this is overblown speculation?Yeah, that's the disturbing part.

How about Wright for Jiricek ? Or Firkus ?Don't think the Kraken have anyone of interest for the Jackets but we have a need for some high-end prospects on D and I would also like to have Sale get another Czech teammate.
Yeah, that's the disturbing part.
Why? Is he expected to be a point producer? Thought he was projected more as a 2 way guyPick him up in your pool now, kids. His value will never be lower.
I mean I think he tops out as a 30-40 point guy. I traded him in my dynasty league a month ago and got But and Connelly for him and a draft pick.Pick him up in your pool now, kids. His value will never be lower.
The reality is that I have no clue about how things will pan out, of course. But my personal view of Jiricek is definitely as a No. 1 offensive and defensive stalwart. Yeah he'll take a few years to get there on the defensive side (he's erratic defensively, tends to fall down). But his offensive numbers in the AHL as an 18/19 year old are virtually unheard of. If you watch him when he's on, he's got all sorts of offensive moxy. My personal opinion is that defense prospects like Jiricek .... you just don't trade. Why? Is he expected to be a point producer? "2 way" implies offenseWhy? Is he expected to be a point producer? Thought he was projected more as a 2 way guy
Fanbases almost always overvalue their players. I remember telling CBJ fans they were expecting way too much for Laine. I was right about that one.
I see now that the allure of narrative has utterly overpowered any hope of reason.
I think the broken overpaid lazy winger and the 20 year old top prospect will be SLIGHTLY different situations. SLIGHTLY.Fanbases almost always overvalue their players. I remember telling CBJ fans they were expecting way too much for Laine. I was right about that one.
I understand that but the post I was referring to was speaking on him as a fantasy producer ( get him now while his value is lowest ) ; which is mostly offensive centric"2 way" implies offense
Right reality vs fantasy value is vastly different though .The reality is that I have no clue about how things will pan out, of course. You do realize I wasn't actually comparing their respective values- right?I think the broken overpaid lazy winger and the 20 year old top prospect will be SLIGHTLY different situations. SLIGHTLY.
Congratulations on determining the time properly with your broken clock all of once.Fanbases almost always overvalue their players. I remember telling CBJ fans they were expecting way too much for Laine. I was right about that one.
Well, come on. The Avs only got Casey Mittelstadt for Bowen Byram when Avs fans insisted the return would be a king's ransom. Seth Jones was considered an elite D prospect when he was traded and the return was Ryan Johansen.Congratulations on determining the time properly with your broken clock all of once.

Yes, fanbases constantly overvalue their players and prospects. But, to be fair, that's why they're fans... they are fanatical about their team and players. But their perceived value rarely, if ever, matches reality.
Today, Jiricek is not the prized young D that S. Jones was when he was traded for Johansen. This supports my opinion that the return for Jiricek will likely be underwhelming for many fans. The superior Jones returned a nice 70-point forward and Byram returned a 24-year old forward whose best season was 59 points with 15 goals.Ryan Johansen was a young, physical C who had just scored 71 points and 30 goals the season before that.
Pretty bad point, the Jackets would and should trade the D prospect for a young C who has already hit 70 points and scored 30 goals if that’s on the table. Unless I’m missing the point here/misreading the tone
