I mean I think he tops out as a 30-40 point guy. I traded him in my dynasty league a month ago and got But and Connelly for him and a draft pick.

The reality is that I have no clue about how things will pan out, of course. But my personal view of Jiricek is definitely as a No. 1 offensive and defensive stalwart. Yeah he'll take a few years to get there on the defensive side (he's erratic defensively, tends to fall down). But his offensive numbers in the AHL as an 18/19 year old are virtually unheard of. If you watch him when he's on, he's got all sorts of offensive moxy. My personal opinion is that defense prospects like Jiricek .... you just don't trade.

I understand that but the post I was referring to was speaking on him as a fantasy producer ( get him now while his value is lowest ) ; which is mostly offensive centric

Well, come on. The Avs only got Casey Mittelstadt for Bowen Byram when Avs fans insisted the return would be a king's ransom. Seth Jones was considered an elite D prospect when he was traded and the return was Ryan Johansen.

Ryan Johansen was a young, physical C who had just scored 71 points and 30 goals the season before that.

Pretty bad point, the Jackets would and should trade the D prospect for a young C who has already hit 70 points and scored 30 goals if that’s on the table. Unless I’m missing the point here/misreading the tone

Today, Jiricek is not the prized young D that S. Jones was when he was traded for Johansen. This supports my opinion that the return for Jiricek will likely be underwhelming for many fans. The superior Jones returned a nice 70-point forward and Byram returned a 24-year old forward whose best season was 59 points with 15 goals.

Not to mention, I don't believe there was friction between Jones and Byram and their respective teams. If those deals are the measuring rod for a Jiricek trade, what do we suspect he will fetch? Most likely a deal headlined by a player like Marco Rossi or Joel Farabee with some sweetener added... a 2nd round pick or so. But I've seen people toss things out like Zegras and Luneau for Jiricek, which is absurd. If anything, it would be one of them straight up. But both of them? Crazy talk.

I can't help but keep stressing this.. Jones and Byram weren't 20 when they were traded. It's not the same.

That has nothing to do with what they should get or shouldn't get.

As far as not prized.. he scorched the World Jrs, he scorched the AHL, he's played about 50 NHL games and he's still 20 (almost 21). Korchinski and Nemec are also in the AHL today. Name me all the 20 year old Dman in the NHL killing it today?

Put another way... Here is his draft year. He was taken 6th and is 7th in points and 6th in games played. He's legitmately exactly where he should be.

Mintyukov is amazing and is currently ahead of him without a doubt. Nemec was taken ahead of him and was better last season (AHL today). Korchinski has more games. Hutson has more points in less games.

That's it. I'd call all those guys prized D to be honest. The draft after this, 2023, has yet to have a Dman play a single NHL game.

Fanbases also constantly and consistently overlook the Blue Jackets in particular. The track record of Jackets fans here w/r/t calling trade values is a heck of a lot more accurate than most simply because people don't bother to pay attention to the folks here and instead make blithe assumptions of "Columbus, therefore bad".
