Why is this kid not rated higher? I can easily see him being better than Ty Smith
Surely you’re joking...did you watch either of them play at all? And no, highlight reels don’t count. Smith is astronomically more dependable and just as talented.

And I like Addison.

Defensively it's not close, Smith is so intelligent in his own zone. Smith's hockey IQ is far ahead.

He probably should be in the top 15-20, but imo its because Smith is so good (and underrated) that another short offensive first defenseman has to take a hit.

Where do you guys think Addison will go? As you can tell Im a Lethbridge hurricane fan. I've see him come up on plenty of mock drafts, but there doesn't seem to be a consensus on him. I've seen him 20th overall on lists and 50th overall on others. Seeing him play live he is a tank on the power play. He doesn't have a bullet of a shot, but it is very accurate. One thing holding him back is his size for sure!

I’m thinking somewhere between 25-35, would love for him to be there at 40 for the Oilers but I think he’ll go before that. 65 in 68 is very good. I could see a team like Chicago or NYR taking him at 26/27 if they don’t take or miss out on Bouchard/Dobson/Boqvist/Hughes.

Never thought be would fall to the pens at 53. So he wasnt even someone on my radar.

I guess size and defensive game made him drop

4th in WHL Dman scoring this year so far behind Smith, Alexeyev and Brook, all within 6 points. Calen has 25 pts in 23 games, 4 of those goals. Last night he had a 5 assist game in a big 8 goal win. Using his stick well to defend still but I’d like to see some more physical defending and strength in order to have any sort of impact when he reaches the NHL level.

Any WHL watchers able to shed any light on his slow scoring start to the season? Is he not seeing much time with Cozens?

Any ideas if he will be a regular on the WJC?
Was about to say that he has zero chance of a top-4 role but fairly likely a bottom pairing or 7th dman, particularly if Dobson comes back, but then I remembered that this is Hockey Canada. He could play 30 minutes a game or be off the team.

If you showed me an article that HC makes all but the most obvious of decisions with a Magic 8 ball, I wouldn’t be surprised.

Anyhow, him playing with Byram in the Canada-Russia series and being pretty good will both be working in his favour.

His skating stride is beautiful, with a little more evasiveness with his edge work he has the ability to be a 40 to 50 point dmen at the next level.

Didn’t want him on the team at first but man was he good. Really showed another level of defensive ability out there and the pinpoint stretch passing was ridiculous.

Definitely a legitimate top-4 prospect.

The one thing I’m actually not 100% sold on is his skating ability- or at least how he uses his skating ability.

Still, passes are crisp, shot is low, hard and he gets it through, and seems to understand how to QB a power play. Lots to like.

Wanted him or Sandin with the Rangers late first rounder in 2018. Happy With Nils Lundkvist but looks like Addison is on the right path.
