RD Braden Schneider - Brandon Wheat Kings, WHL (2020, 19th, NYR)

Still love him, but i think every team needs a few retro Dman that can win every board battle and knows how to defend. They don't have to be big, but it sure helps to have reach, leverage, and weight, when you are trying to contain Wilson, Coyle, or the like in front of the net.

I think he's got the floor of Scandella/Hamonic, ceiling of Parayko.

He's this Sharks fan top of the wish list.
Whys that? We have just about zero need for a RHD and our right side should be pretty set for years. Dont get me wrong ill take him if hes the BPA and trade later, but I think id rather get a top six forward if possible

The more I watch of Schneider the more I start to prefer him over Guhle. I'd say he's the 2nd best defenseman coming out of Canada this draft. Possibly the best defenseman in the entire draft defensively right now.

I have him ranked 2nd amongst defensemen... Most steady defenseman in the draft...

Think this guy would be a really smart pick for a team needing a top 4 guy with size and good defending abilities. I could be wrong, but I think he will be able to play in the NHL in a couple of years, if he is smart enough. He's close to physical enough already.

A team like TOR would love to have a guy like this.

Seabrook comparison is a good one, I think?

If we wind up getting Arizonas and Vancouvers pick this year I would like the Devils to pick a player like him. Sanderson, Ghule and Schneider all seem like similar prospects so if we wound up with 1 of the 3 I'd be pretty happy. They all have size , good offensive skills and are average to above average skaters. I hope he slips down to the Vancouver pick for us. Seems like a very well rounded player.

If he's there at #29 when Colorado pick then it would be a really good pick. He'd really solidify our right side and give us 3 legitimate top 4 RHD prospects to adequately replace Johnson in a ~3 years. Even if Timmins hits then both Helleson and Schneider would be perfectly suited to a steady role on the 3rd pairing.

Byram --------- Makar
Girard --------- Timmins
Graves --------- Johnson/Helleson
Zhuravlyov ---- Schneider

With the showing Schneider/Guhle had at the tpg and 2nd half of the year don't see either of them making it out of the teens. With how weak a year this is for dmen that won't help either.

Yeah, at least one, if not both, will be gone in the teens. I know the league is trending to skill and speed over size, but GM's won't be able to resist big Dmen who can skate.

Yup. Speed is great, but it's even better if you add size to the speed.

The sens need a physical presence to play on the right side of the ice in a really really bad way. With Chabot, Brannstrom, Wolanin and Lajoie on the left side I think he would be a perfect compliment to one of these puck movers. I am a big fan, if he is there at the Islanders pick (20/21) I hope the sens take him. Id even move up to get him if they had to.

A center and winger with the two top 5 picks, and then a strong RHD at 20 would be just about the perfect draft for Ottawa. And it would only be day 1!

Alternatively you get a C/F and Drysdale, and then another good forward at 20.

Either way it's crazy to think that Ottawa will be drafting roughly 1, 4, 20, 33, 46, 52, 53, and 64.... 8 picks in the first 64, that's 12.5% of the cream of the crop of an entire draft year. o_O:laugh:

Barring some crazy bad luck drafting this draft will be huge for Ottawa. They already gave good pieces in place with Chabot , Tkachuk , Brannstrom , White , Norris , Batherson , Forementon etc. Add this stacked draft and they won't a punching bag organization. Melnyk better not mess this up.

Canucks first pick will be in the 75-80 range. The Sens will have picked 8 players before the Nucks pick their first - crazy.

While I agree and do think the good scouting dept in Ottawa will make out like bandits in a strong draft all I can remember is being told in 2011 when they had 3 first rounders how zib, noesen, puempel would be the future of the franchise. Things change and development is no certainty. I do think Ottawa will make out better this go round

In 3-4 years when Schneider is ready, Burns will be 39 and Karlsson 34. In the NHL when you draft a player, you are looking 3-5 years down the road.
