I like it. Much more informative than some rankings this time a year.

When you watch amateur lists like THW or Dobber they just copy each others lists like muppets with little tweaks. When HP (their rankings) or McKenzie (average of ten actual scouts) publish their lists these amateurs change their list very fast to look like HP and McKenzie. Take a note!

So when you follow these true amateur websites you are basically brainwashing yourself a whole year. No wonder there is huge surprises in each draft.

As this is a preliminary list it doesn't have to be ranked this early on season. This way you get a fresh look who is 1st round calibre and how deep the draft is going to be. If you get just a simple rankings you miss the other aspects which are more important than who is where right now. You don't need this list to prove yourself that Bedard is 1st one picked next summer.

Lastly this is not a ranking - it is a watch list. Better took it as given.

Eh, Central Scouting’s preliminary list has not really been that eye opening. There are 4 players with A grades who might raise eyebrows - Pellikka, Hrabal, Honzek, and Bjarnason. If you have followed Bjarnason’s start to the season, he’s not surprising at all.

Last year had one surprise for me in Poitras who was ultimately picked late 2nd round. There were quite a few handfuls of B grade prospects not even drafted.

2021 had one A grade surprise for me in Vladimir Sychyov. He wasn’t even drafted and has 0-6-6 in 17 games this year in the MHL.

Central Scouting hasn’t been any more on point than other early lists in recent history.

There hasn't been any list on point in history of hockey. Developing as a prospects is not a linear so you can't predict whole draft year before. You can't 100% predict how players develop even at the draft. I repeat; it is a watch list and if you don't like it is fine, but i can't see any reasonable argument for that, i see only a opinion. HF board is full of opinions... actual facts not so much.

I believe Honzek has a good change to be late 1st rounder. Skates like a wind, mature as a hockey player, big. Easy to see why some teams would like to pick 3rd liner at the end side of 1st.

My point was the Central Scouting’s list isn’t very different and hasn’t been very on point in the few instances where it has been different.

I know the Swedes are missing some defenders thru injury but pretty impressive to make the cut nonetheless. He's had an outstanding season and has to be in the mix for first defender off the board.

I'm also starting to think the narrative that there are so many good forwards that no defenders are going to be taken in the top 15 is really, really not true at this point. I'm still seeing mocks where nobody has a defenseman in the top half of the round and to me these look both unrealistic and like dated rankings. A lot of blueliners who started this year with little fanfare are having bang up years and a lot of the ballyhooed forward prospects have been underwhelming.

There may not be a Jiricek or Nemec this year (and who knows maybe a guy like Gulyayev is and we aren’t valuing him enough) but look at where guys like Mintyukov, Korchinski and Mateychuk started their draft year in terms of hype and then look where they ended up getting picked. There are going to be a few defenders in the top 15 this year for sure.

Considering all the injuries and declines he’s pretty clearly the most talented defenseman on the WJC squad.

There will always be defenders taken in the top 15, absolutely. It just doesn't look like there's gonna be the Sanderson/Drysdale guys projected in the top 10. I do think we won't see a defenseman go in the first 7 picks just because Gulyayev is going to fall for Russian reasons.

Gulyayev woudnt go in top 10 even he would be canadian. Not skilled enough, not good enough skater when you put into perspective with his size.

Reminds me a little of Nils Lundkvist. Good player. Don’t think he’s a future star and for 5’11 he’s not outstanding at anything, but I think he’ll be able to be an NHL regular and likely will be a first round pick.

I disagree a little bit here. I think he's got elite sense and is really cool under pressure and certainly very skilled. Ice in his veins even playing his first few SHL games. I think he will make lots of mistakes because of physical immaturity and playing a risky game sometimes both in his first year or two now and probably even against good teams at this WJC, but in the long run he will be a really good one. Ceiling is sky high. Not a sure thing but top-pairing, run your PP1 kind of potential.

What about his style of play?
He is not tall so i guess he doesn‘t play physical?

I mean 14 games 5 points with 17 is pretty good in the SHL but i didn‘t read much about him in terms of 1st round pick 2023?
Why is that?because of his size?

I think he’s definitely moving into first round so far. Probably top 20-25. He’s a right shot D which adds to his appeal

Think he will go top 15 at this point, might end up being the highest rated D in the draft.

I saw a few draft predictions and he isn‘t in one of them…but probably they are too old :D

How would you describe his style of play?or which D is compareable with him?

He is an offensive defenseman. Has good hands and is an agile skater which makes him a dangerous transition player. Not the fastest or most physical player, but he has top four upside IMO. Needs to continue to evolve his play in his own end. Maybe a Vince Dunn type player, not as good of a skater though

Really like his poise and hands. Projecting him as a top pair D seems like a bit of a stretch but he has solid NHL upside as a potential top4 D who excels in transition.

Fantastic tournament for ASP. A swedish team relying on a 17 year old like this is very rare. Breakout machine, almost flawless defensively and ended up leading the team in icetime. He's a gamer.
