Value of: Rantanen to STL

I don't really see anything of remote value for Colorado from STL that would make it worth entertaining the idea of trading him within the divison.

Absolutely Zero chance Blues and Avs make a deal for someone like Rantanen. Aves rightfully ask for the moon and the Blues will not give up the assets for a player that goes UFA at the end of this season.

Rantanen with Thomas sure would be a hell of a top line. I have to say no though simply because of the money he will want. and maybe age? Not sure how old he is.

Weird thread. At least it’s stayed mostly cordial so far?

Finally Blues and Avs fans can unite on something, i.e. how unrealistic this whole scenario is.

Colorado owns St. Louis.

Let's keep this civil. I wouldn't want to have to bring up the fact that the Blues didn't have a chance to own Colorado in the playoffs during our peak years, because the Lanche weren't even in the playoffs for the better part of a decade.

criticsm is healthy and needed for any debate.

Criticism involves identifying flaws in an argument.

Flaming in posting an insult with the intent to be negative.

“I wish I had stopped reading after the first sebtence” is an insult meant to be negative. It is pure flaming. It is not criticism. It is embarrassing the dude didn’t delete it. I’m glad ive moved past the ability to be like that.

Some of y’all need to think about yourselves and consider what improvement looks like. You’ll thank me if you do. Life is better on the other side.

Lol jesus buddy. Good thing you're here so we can all learn to improve. Maybe one day I'll start my own pointless thread and bitch about how no one will participate the way I want.

I care 0 whether you want to participate. The audience is people who want to participate. I’m not here to appease all.

I care that people who don’t want to participate can’t just move on and find stuff they want to do instead. They would rather make things toxic and fill things they don’t like full of garbage.

Move on. If this isn’t for you then it isn’t for you. You’ll get over it. Speculating about a pending ufa specifically in a section about proposed trades is a normal thing that happens. There’s a thousand other threads or you could make your own. It’s not normal for people to browse everything life has to offer while proclaiming loudly how much they hate each thing. Go do stuff you like.

I think stl would have to move Kyrou there, then overpay with a top shelf prospect or two or three, or four…and probably some futures. Or Buchnevich. Or somehow 8 mil on the books going the other way. This is where I stop because I don’t know what Colorado would want, but if they wanted the stuff Stl has then they’d get a looot of stuff. We got some good stuff. Snuggeruds and dvorksys and Stenbergs, stancls, jechos. All sorts of things. Get ~8 mil of contracts from stls depth chart then Pick two prospects, no restrictions, then demand a first. That’s what it would cost probs.
Only way it makes sense from the Avs POV if they better this season, which is a big ask considering the cap and Rants going the other way. Picks + Prospects don't move the needle. The Avs would sooner treat Rants like a rental for a cup run than trade him for futures.

So basically it would need to be something like Thomas retained down to $5 mil + 50% retained Fowler. Then add it's within the division so Holloway would probably need to be added.

Does it make sense for the Blues? Not a chance. But the Avs brass clearly believe the next 1-2 years is their window, so any trade involving Rants would be looked at with that lens. I guess the other scenario would be if a trade happened for his rights in the offseason if the Avs truly can't come to terms with Rants, but I have no idea what his value would be then.

The premise of the this thread started off bad but come on you just swung the pendulum of ridiculous way back the other way. Thomas is PPG player who anyone would agree plays the more important position and you want us to retain 3+ mil for 7 years. Then we add a cheap young player who will be a RFA on pace for 30 goals and 60 points to that. Then on top of that a top4 defenseman signed for another year that you want us to retain another 3+ mil on per year. All for an admittingly elite winger who is pending UFA. The ask should be a little ridiculous I say, but you went to Pluto.

I'm appeasing the OP for what the ask would be. In his hypothetical situation, Rantanen would be re-signed with the Blues.

I flat out stated it makes no sense to the Blues, but for the Avs to actually consider moving him this season it would need to make the team better. It makes no difference if Thomas had 2 years left on his contract or 7 years for this premise.
