A small Finnish article on Rantanen today. Nothing significant. Negotiations for an extension have been started, but haven't really intensified yet. He's having an emphasis on speed with his summer training, because that's the way the game is going. Also trying to prepare for a long season, to stay as healthy as possible.

I'll only believe this if Ismo confirms it.

They didn't mean what kind of speed, Rants is teaching himself how to smoke 4-5 darts at a time to maximize those carcinogens.

I'm glad to hear Mikko's working on his speed. I think that will benefit him tremendously.

When he's off his game, he has an issue with turnovers, and a lot of that stems from his own willingness to slow the game down, and play off the contact, because of his size.

That's great to have in your back pocket when you need it, especially in the playoffs, but in today's game, especially the regular season, you need to outstate the contact, or you'll get trapped by good defensive systems, and turn the puck over.

Every season over the last 10 years or so, separation speed has gotten more, and more important in the NHL.

The extra speed should benefit Mikko's game, because he has the vision, and talent to play a high skill game, at a high speed, which has become very rare for player's his size.

I'll be honest the idea of Mikko being fleet of foot while still falling over like newborn Bambi every three seconds sounds like it would be kind of funny to watch.

He's going to sign 8 X 12M for 96M. That's his number, that's slightly below Mack, that's what makes sense.
