Rumor: Rantanen Extension is Close???

I don't think this is happening anymore. Our team isn't exactly attractive at the moment. It feels like we are spinning wheels and he can choose more interesting locations.

I hope I am wrong. We made a mistake keeping him. This team isn't in position to lose this big asset for nothing. Same goes for Makar and MacK.
 
I hate the salary cap.

Also, Milan Hejduk got screwed. He never made more than 4M in a season.

Now that I think about it, this is probably what's been driving my disdain for how much Mikko is going to get. Mikko's a much better player than Hejduk, but 10M/season better?

He still made $37M over his career...i'd love to be screwed like that

I always loved how dedicated Hejduk was. He even had a mini half ice rink made for his house.

I kinda agree. Following teams has become a calculation process and fans turn on players that make more than they should simply because it screws the cap structure.

You should be happy about player salaries rising. Unless you own a Hockey team I suppose.

Sounds like a random goblin or something from Lord of the Rings that shows up for a single paragraph in the books. But has an 85 page back story.

And nerds are pissed that in the movie its pronounced Crad-nec instead of the proper Tolkien approved pronunciation of Crod-nec.

In a Finnish interview Rantanen said that there's nothing new to tell about the contract negotiations, but the lines are open for further negotation.

Just my two cents, but if Mikko leaves after this sason, CMac should be fired, but not for the act of letting him walk. He should be fired for not pulling the trigger on a trade at the last TDL. At that point, Nuke , Landy, Toews, Makar and Mack were all signed for years under the cap. The cap math was / is pretty simple: There would not be ample room under the cap to sign Mikko to a Superstar Contract.

It sure would help a hell of a lot if the rumors of increased cap space this offseason came to fruition. If that were the case - and I am not holding my breath - the space from a Landy LTIRetirement, Georgie's expiring contract and the additional cap space could land both Mikko and a legit starter in net. (Wood++ for Demko if his knee heals?)

I'm 100% certain Sakic and ownership would never have let MacFarland trade Rantanen. If he walks it ain't just on the GM.

CMAC should've flipped Rants when he had the chance. It's either too expensive or we'll lose him for nothing.

If we traded him and didn't win the cup, you'd be calling for CMac to be fired FOR trading him.
