rant: A trip down memory lane

there are some really intelligent posters here, people who really understand the game. but somehow we've just let it all gone down to crap. now the PGT is filled with lame ass gifs after every game and we're even talking about freaking 80's throwback toys. The only time we talk hockey is when people trash talk the players or management through conjecture or superficial numbers. The amount of entitlement that swims through this board is sickening (some people want to fire Sutter after he's taken us to the conference finals more times in his 2 years than our whole franchise history). there's no joy in the game anymore, now it's win or whine. I guess some of us have forgotten when making playoffs was a joy in itself.

It's sad... before, when i couldn't watch the games, I could just pass-through the PGT and read thoughtful and insightful analysis about the games. It gave such an in-depth view that i didn't need to watch the game and sure as hell didn't need the box scores. I've played hockey my whole life and the amount of stuff i've learned about the game from reading these boards is amazing. But somehow it's turned into an Us magazine/Teen weekly magazine discussion. all the intelligent posters left because of this, but i find this year it's reached an all-time low. This board used to take pride that we weren't the "LGK" fans, now it's one and the same.

go ahead, give me the "don't let the door hit you" BS. with the way this board is right now, couldn't care less to never return. i just see that this board has so much more potential than the low we are at right now

Actually, I would argue the Kings hfboards is one of the better ones (objective, funny but depending on a thread thoughtfull...).
Yes there is an overreaction after every loss and sometimes during winning streaks we get a bit obnoxious towards other fanbases. However, the evaluations of players, prospects are very fair on these boards - if what, maybe we underrate our prospects here and there (There were few of us that ranked Shore in the Kings top 10 with top 6 potential).
How many of our middle or late picks turned into quality NHL-ers during the Lombardi era? Plenty.

Most of the GDT is filled by play-by-play information of the games.
There are always quality reports of rookie camps, training camps, prospects updates...
Also mostly the Kings HF forum-ers don't make idiotic trade proposals on the trade boards, nor do we overhype our players or prospects like they are all untouchable superstars.

That said, these boards would be dull without the funny threads, gifs, jokes...

Nothing happened, people just left. It wasn't anyone's fault. Going on HF is a hockey board, people let go of it easily. No one forced people out. People just left, and it happened slowly. The only poster I miss is Osprey though on here.
 
I haven't seen much of a change. I think the 80's toys was just the last PGT (one game this whole year), other than that, I'm not sure what you mean. There's good analysis on player appreciation threads, there's advanced stats talk, there's good chatter during the game and after. Things are going well right now, so sometimes we have a little fun...like posting 80's toys. I don't see what the big deal is. This site is the most intelligent hockey site I know, and the Kings boards are at the top in this regard.
 
I think this is still a pretty good board, as someone who has been posting on hockeys future messageboards since 2000, I do miss many of the posters who disappeared over the years, but there have been some other great posters coming in as well. As the site gets bigger you are inevitably going to pick up more and more sub-par posters, it happens to any site, but overall like bleed4 said, it's still worlds better than the alternative when it comes to discussing the Kings.

One area I do strongly agree with you is the GDT's, they are beyond awful. It's nothing but whining about the refs at this point. Everytime the Kings take a boarding, roughing or interference it's "2 minutes for playing hockey" and then when the Kings take a tripping penalty you have people posting "spash" or "nice flop" I swear in some peoples eyes the Kings haven't taken a penalty all year.
 
Like everything else, you gotta take the good with the bad. There are some extremely thoughtful and insightful posters. I appreciate them - especially the ones who can comment on the Manchester, CHL, and NCAA kids since I never get a chance to see them. Of course, you get some reactionary posts that we could do without, but it is what it is.

Also, the Kings have had an incredible amount of success the last two years. The old folks like myself have a pretty decent pulse on the team and don't need to post / analyze everything. This team has an identity. We suck during the regular season and take it up a notch when the playoffs start. When we were terrible, there was a whole lot more to talk about. We have a lot fewer holes in the lineup. We're a solid team.

That's true of any of the team-specific board GDTs. I usually read Kings opponents' GDT threads during games, and it's usually way worse than it is here.
 
To be fair, what you are describing has happened to the internet as a whole. Many try comedy/drama to try and stand out. A lot of it is lame but whatever. Every so often something comes along like the .gif thread or Das Horn and it all becomes worth it.
 
Btw the Gifs I post in the GDTs is purely superstition because everytime it's resulted in wins.

If any of those guys are banned this thread is going to get torpedoed pretty quickly.

I remember northernKing, he was actually here before me on the old style boards. He is still around but doesn't post often. I remember he was the Kings selector for the 2001 mock draft (and I'm sure he did a better job than Dave Taylor).

Osprey still occasionally posts on the main boards and used to post on the politics board. Also remember him from LGK back in the day.
 
I don't think the Boards have changed much since 2010 when I joined.

Really the only change (in my opinion), is everyone has expectations now.
