Derek Stepan is the winner of round 3 with 77.08% of the votes cast.

Criteria

The general idea for the poll was to rank the players based on who everyone thinks is most valuable. Take into account overall play and not necessarily point totals, although they do help. Ignore the contract if that's at all possible. It's more like looking at the players in a vacuum if you ignore contracts.

#0 -- Henrik Lundqvist
#1 -- Rick Nash - 50%
#2 -- Ryan McDonagh - 68.87%
#3 -- Derek Stepan - 77.08%
#4 -- ???

I think it gets more interesting from here on out.

Staal, then Callahan, then Girardi. :p:

Staal is the best defensemen on this team.

That's arguable, and considering the fact that Staal has played about 50% of the last two seasons compared to Girardi, who has missed one game, the nod goes to Girardi.

Going with Captain Cally here. Heart and soul of the team, gets everyone going through his play, and he's pretty clutch.

Not seeing "clutch". He's been underwhelming/hurt in each of his playoff series with this team.

I love Callahan, but I'm starting to feel his value to the team is ridiculously overstated by a lot of people on here.

I feel like he steps up his game in big games. Not necessarily the scoring as much as play behind the puck.

The only thing arguable about Girardi being better than Staal is that G is a RHD, and thus more valuable in that aspect because we have less of them.

When Staal is back in the lineup every night next season, people are going to remember.

I'm saying that calling Staal the best defenseman on the team is arguable. Implying that McDonagh is up there, and I consider him the better player. Not by a lot, but the better player. I also think McDonagh's going to separate himself from the rest of the blueliners on the team and take a huge step next year.

Staal is a better player than Girardi, but as I said, his injuries play a factor. Girardi is an ironman and our defensive leader, as Tawnos said. When Staal proves he can stay healthy and play with the eye injury, that's when I'll take him over Girardi.

If healthy Staal is a legit 1st pairing defenseman for any team in the NHL. I like Girardi and Callahan too but Staal is the best guy left.

Ah, my fault.

Well, if I think Staal is going to solidify himself as the #1 dman again, and you think McDonagh is going to take another step this season... Well, we should be in a treat from the Rangers defense then this year

Unless Marc's unable to overcome his eye injury, he's superior to Girardi.

It was between Staal and Cally here for me, went with Staal. Cally next round I guess.

Well, Callahan is officially the most underrated player on this team.

Not so sure about that. He's good and all, but not exactly an all star. He should be up next...right about where he belongs. He's not a franchise goalie or a 1st line forward or 1st pairing dman.

Went with Cally. Guy is a sparkplug for us. If he isn't scoring, it's okay, he's throwing hits. If he isn't throwing hits, it's okay, he's blocking shots.

He can score 25+ goals easy in an 82 game season and play a great two way game not to mention he's probably the most physical forward on the team. That's good enough to play on a lot of first lines.

Someone should tell him to hang and float more that way he'd tally more points and get some more recognition around here.
