Also disheartening, other than game 6 against Ottawa, when was the last time the Rangers won when they DIDN'T score first? The total amount of times they have in their last season and playoffs is staggering, and the trend seems to be continuing.

The hard-working identity that the Rangers have established over the past 2 years has been noticeably absent, as well as the tight defense and aggressive forecheck that were the hallmarks of this team.

We have had some turnover so of course there will be an adjustment period, but I think the new players have been doing fine and it's the players who have been here that look lost. There are some players on this team who currently seem a little confused about their roles, as if the Nash trade has turned the team into a bunch of Gretzkys and they think they should be making finesse plays instead of doing what made them successful in the past. If they stick to the fundamentals and start playing the type of game that made them such a stingy and tough team to play against last year, they will be fine.

Stu's gotta go. Rupp's gotta go. Move Boyle to 4th line center. Call up Miller. Use Eminger unless McIlrath becomes NHL ready.

Make some changes, this team needs to respond and have a fire lit under them. Everyone thinks they are safe.

The personnel hasn't changed enough for that. The difference is the mindset, the guys were really pleased with themselves, i'm sure.

Torts will beat it out of them, I think Callahan's quote in particular after this game says it all, the addition of Nash only helps if they play the same way they did last year.

We also need to shore up our bottom 6 if we are to make a run. Boyle, Halpern and Pyatt look good, the others I am not so sold on. I still think JT Miller gets a call up at some point and impresses.

Almost 40% of our forwards weren't here last season (incl Kreider).

As for mindset, they miss Dubinsky. I think they'll figure it out though.

I dont think that is the issue because i agree you can turn it around with one good winning streak however i think people are upset at the way the rangers look. Last year even in losses the rangers played tough and fought hard. These first two games the rangers look slow and soft. they look like a pushover. Hopefully the next game we see them with more intensity

I'm sorry, but to me this is revisionist history. The Rangers were playing even worse to start last season, and their 3-3-3 start was compounded by enormous amounts of luck. Going by the actual games and their "deserved" outcomes, the Rangers would've been something like 1-6-2 after 9 games.

The criticism towards the team at the time on HFNYR was that the players seemed to lack chemistry entirely, and this was deemed to be a product of the weird pre-season in Europe which put the team on the back foot regarding preparation.

This is now happening again. Unsurprisingly it is Nash, McD, MDZ, guys who have been playing during the lockout that are the better performers on the team.

Look at the Pens where Crosby is (comparatively) anonymous while Malkin is ripping it up.

The Rangers had comparatively fewer players playing during the lockout than their opponents, and a few new guys to integrate into the lineup. These chemistry issues are to me more expected than baffling.

They were a little under .500 last year at it. Not too bad. That wasn't really the problem yesterday as Callahan tied the game at 1. Against Boston considering we never caught up it was a problem.

Pens looked a lot faster . How come they can keep finding guys like Tanner Glass for their 3-4 lines ? The 4a and 4b lines[we have no 3rd] are a big concern and just way to slow against the clubs like the Pens

Watching Orpik lay on Kreider was not a team building moment...looked like the Sabres from last season !

Oh well...things should get better . Hopefully the King can stand on his head again all season like the last one . Some days I think we would only be a .500 hockey club without him !

But that's the odd thing. They never manage to win even after they tie it up. Game 5 and 6 of the devils series were classic examples. It just sucks knowing the game is over 5 minutes into a game.

Edit: also a good example was game 2 against the caps. Get scored on first, take a LEAD, and still end up losing.

I haven't watched the Rangers' games. I saw you guys seem very high on Nash. One question though, how well is he utilizing his linemates at this point?

That was one of my main issues with him in Columbus. While he is very dangerous on breakaways (better than in shootouts actually), he hasn't always played well with others.

Eh, he hasn't had the puck a whole lot, to be honest. When he gets it he does seem to tend to try to make a move to the net on his own but honestly I can't hold that against him yet since he's about the only one so far who will do that. He has made a couple of nice passes

I'd be fine with him being a shoot first player for the Rangers, I think they need someone whos first priority is to get the puck on net. I guess I'll get mad if it becomes obvious he's passing up good opportunities for other people or making really dumb decisions, but so far (only two games) I can't complain

He has been creating a lot of scoring chances for everyone on the ice. It seems like every time he carries the puck into the offensive zone, a scoring chance ensues for him or anyone else that happens to be out there.

Hard to say at this point. Nothing is really clicking for this team as of yet, but I wouldn't say he's hogging the puck. However, given how badly the rest of the team has been playing, I don't think anyone would mind if he was. Best player on the ice for us by far in both games.

He's shown a little bit of chemistry with Richards, but they've also been completely out of touch several times.

People bashing Boyle for literally no reason.

Can you say whipping boy?

So far this season, he's deserved all of the criticism he's gotten. Not that he's alone... But he's looked pretty bad. He had one good moment last night drawing a penalty. Other than that, he's been underwhelming. But again, he's not alone.

I agree he is not alone at all. Most of the team hasnt been good at all. I mean gabby hagelin bickel to name a few but i dont know why some defend boyle all the time. He played better yesterday but its not like he deserves praise lol

So you saw nothing wrong with the way the game ended? Game was over ont he scoreboard. Orpik crushing the rookie open ice. Krieder down. Boyle acts as if nothing happened. No reason to question his non-action to the play?

No reason to take a suspension defending a perfectly clean hit.

That's oversimplifying don't you think?

If the shoe is on the other foot and McD crushes Crosby and we're up 6-3 w :30 secs to go... do any Pens go after McD?

You bet they do... probably multiple guys.
Maybe. Crosby certainly gets hit a lot more than the Penguins retaliate though (playoff meltdown excluded). And Kreider is not Crosby. Would the Pens take a one game suspension for Kennedy?

So you think if Boyle challenges Orpik, proceeds to get his butt kicked he would get suspended? Stop it. He did nothing because that's what he's good at; doing nothing.
