Awesome. Ranger rookies don't have to go all the way to Traverse City to play like Rosie O'Donnell's underwear.

Korzack still is in the CHL. He was a 21 draft class.
He's eligible for NA pro hockey. He has both played four full years in the CHL and will be 20 in a couple weeks. His stated goal in an interview recently was to make the AHL this year.

With that said, I don't know if he's ready for the AHL and wouldn't be surprised to see him go back for an over-age season. Otherwise he may well end up in the ECHL.

By all accounts Korczak had a very good season last year but the pros are a big step for a lot of prospects.....and some don't do it very well. I think it could go either way for him. I really think Vince in his prospect rankings put him a bit high.

Othmann and Trivigno were the only stand outs for me. Trivigno hates losing. You can tell. When they went down 4-0 he started playing like a real douchebag. Driving his stick into the goalies glove after the whistle, getting under guys skin. Love that. Good for team culture. Othmann looks huge out there and has major swag to his game. He’s going to be a player for sure.

Anotha year anotha unimpressive prospect tournament. Are we not getting these kids hotel rooms or something? Has the organization not been giving them food on game days for the last 15 years? It's almost impressive how underwhelming all of our prospect tournaments are.

Unimpressive?

Fox, K’Andre Miller, Shesty, Buch and a bunch of other kids who have become really good NHLers have been a part of these teams.

What is a successful prospect tournament? Both Buch and Shesty were declared ECHL busts after their play in these games. That is not an exaggeration.

Honestly, if our goalie lets in 3 shots from the redline, why care more about that than if an icing is called? How does that matter in any way? Look at what the kids are doing instead, forget about the score. It’s litterary preseason to the preseason lol. Some here are trashing kids going by the ear test, “X haven’t been noticeable on the radio”.

Buch didn’t objectively “do well” in Traverse. But he showed that he had a ton of quality and hockey in him, how he moved the puck, saw the ice. He was a fantastic prospect, still declared a bust because he didn’t win us games in a rookie tournament. Everyone are always negative of these tournaments, despite us producing some fantastic kids for the NHL. Like litterary the best D in the league for one year in Fox and the best goalie in the league in Shesty.

I can guarantee one thing, the way hfboards evaluates them is certainly terribly flawed.

Didnt we also consider Kakko an immediate superstar because of traverse?

People have always been too quick to reach conclusions about guys after development camp and Traverse (RIP). The fact that we're making up our minds on some kids after *checks notes* two exhibition prospect games is...actually pretty on-brand for this place.
This is the board that starts the "we are a bad team" thread after 2 games. What do you expect?

Yeah I remember Buch and Igor not doing that well in their respective Traverse tournaments and Igor struggling throughout his first camp here…..but when he got going it’s been lights out ever since.

I don’t put much stock into these rookie tournaments. I think the lack of chemistry is an issue, and I think when the regular training camp and preseason starts it’s when these kids really need to show what they can do. Granted they will be playing against NHL’ers who are dialed back but still it’s an opportunity to play against men and not kids.

Jack is exactly the kind of center prospect we need in our system. Could see him getting a roster spot for the canes next season. But hey, we have Olof Lindbom. One of our worst draft picks in recent history.

Drafting 18 year olds for the most part is an inexact science. Usually guys in the upper tiers are standing out from the rest of their peers--so your odds are better the higher the pick but usually again about the time the 15th to 20th pick of any given draft comes around it starts to become more of a crapshoot---where now an argument could be made for like any 5 or 10 or 15 guys even at any given slot. When it gets into even later rounds sometimes there really aren't any parameters left at all. I felt like 2022 somewhere around about in the 4th round was like that and that's when we saw teams taking lots of overagers.

A well earned break my friend.

Barbashev played well in these games. I feel he will be a steal for the Rangers. If he ends up like his brother. I would take that and run.
