Ok so I asked my friend who's in Erie and sees every game for a scouting report, he said and I quote: "Honest opinion on Donnay? He's a pylon. I can't believe they signed him. Not phyiscal and needs to bulk up considerably. Can only play 15 minutes a game due to poor stamina. The signing is bad enough I'll become a fan of another team. If he manages to add 50 pounds and learns to hit, it'll be good. But I don't see either happening. Fans in Erie hated him."

Your friend lost all credibility, as far as I'm concerned, in saying that kind of thing.

Sounds like he's a victim of his own negative reinforcement.

another big and physical d-man? anyone think this is a sign of Gorton's growing influence?

This solidifies Donnay as one of my favorite prospects.

He's big but the kid is not physical in any way. Just a guess, but he seems like the kind of kid who probably was so much bigger than everyone else through peewees and had to scale back his physicality, while everyone else was maturing in that aspect. I'd be lying if I said I know everything about Donnay but that's mostly because he was a kid that never stood out to me and has been pretty unimpressive in his time with Erie.

So in other words, we're f**ked next year.

They will be fine for next year provided they don't try to sign any UFAs from other teams. The cap raising will cover costs of contract increases easily.

How does Connor Allen have a cap hit of almost 2 mil? Is he that good of an undrafted prospect??

I will post this up on the Tolchinsky thread too, but does the signing of Donnay make the chances of signing Sergey tougher or no? I mean if they signed him as well both contracts would slide but still curious.

I have no idea why Allen is making almost $2 mil Punx.

If anyone out of camp that they should've signed was Alex Krushelnyski. Dude put up great numbers in the NCAA this past year and looked great in the prospects camp.

I trust Gorton and co. on this signing. He sounds like nothing special but Rangers brass had to see something in him (other than size of course). I trust em.

I only know him through fight footage. Other than that no one seems to go out of their way to mention this player. So I will do the same.

Rangers have signed longshots/projects for as long as I can remember, this is nothing new Beacon, though the pat on your back was nicely written.

PLD is right, see ya in 4/5 years with this kid, at least, if ever.

I have heard some talk about veteran D Troy Donnay being close to signing an entry-level contract with the NHL’s New York Rangers. It’s unconfirmed at this point. When reached by phone today, Donnay said, “I can’t really answer that right now.â€

19 year old veteran? in what world? oh well, another contract eaten up.

Being 19 and that underweight is pretty common. He'll need to fill out before anyone can really judge how it's going to work out. A project for sure.

Well i have watched him a lot through out his time in the OHL, And in his youth days. There is a lot of negatives about his game, but at the same time there is some positives.

I seen him play about 15 times in the OHL.

The negatives: His foot work, and acceleration is really bad. His pivots need tons of work, He is pretty sloppy transitioning on the rush, I have seen him get beat a lot, He needs to work on getting more physical in front of his net, and along the boards. It seems like he's scared to hurt the other player. He has to get a lot meaner, and not be scared to shove players out of the crease and in front of the goalie. He's WAY to tall and lanky, the way his body movement looks when hes about to take of on strides, and throw a hit you can tell his tallness takes over his ability to accelerate and move his feet quicker. He's 6"7-6"8 185 pounds. If he puts up 30 pounds and gets 215 pounds he will be good.

He is way to tall and skinny, to ever play close to professional hockey. guys like this that are very tall and completely bone skinny, get crushed.

The positives: Well obviously one is his size. He played around 20-25 minutes a game for Erie, And had a letter on his sweater. So he has that leadership role. But for his game play positives, His reach is a huge plus. And you can tell he has potential to become a shut down D. He likes plant him self around or in front of his goalie. I have seen him do this probably every time he is on the ice when i seen him.

-BUT there for. Other people, Scouts, and my self are all scratching our heads and saying what.? He's like a cone out there, There's other players out in the world that are better and deserve it than him. But I am very shocked to see this, VERY.

Being 19 and that underweight is pretty common. He'll need to fill out before anyone can really judge how it's going to work out. A project for sure.

I disagree, He's a 19 year old man now. He's played enough years and had enough offseasons to work on his weight. His weight has not increased much since his rookie season in the OHL. I think they weighed him in at 175 in his first year. (Which i know people and players that told me, they rack up there height and weight a couple inches and pounds) I knew a kid that they had measured at 6"7 but really he was 6"5.
