He needs to put on at least 50 more pounds if he's 6'7".

Let's just be careful with him.
We got lucky that Kreider could build his frame and not slow down.

Do it gradually, don't over bulk w/too many muscles. He needs power but also to skate well. Forwards and backwards.

Skjei is tall and skates extra fast. They have a profile to work with.

Hopefully Donnay is not another Tysen Dowzak:p::p::naughty::D

PS -- is he righty or lefty shot?

Kudos to you, Beacon, for reminding us that finding these undrafted gems is another way to get ahead/make up for prior bad drafts. :handclap::yo::handclap:

When the first one makes even the slightest of impact at the AHL level, gimme a hollar.

Until then, they are nothing more than career AHL Journeymen.

It should be noted that the Rangers have been linked to Dane Fox for a couple of years as well. He is on this team. They should have seen Donnay play quite a bit.

Also of note, according to Capgeek, when the Rangers re-sign Stepan and Mashinter and if they signed Donnay, they are at 50 contracts.

Oops, I messed up, they already have Troy Dunnay in there.

3 years @ $716,667

That leaves them at 49 contracts when they re-sign Stepan and Mashinter.

I have it at 48, and once Donnay slides it will be 47.

I've had limited viewings of Donnay. I just happened to see a couple games because I was checking out Connor McDavid, but it was hard to miss this kid on the ice because he's so big. Obviously he's very tall, but I wouldn't expect him to put on a ton of weight. He doesn't really seem have the frame to fill out to be a monster that weighs in at 240 or something. He has a build that's closer to Tyler Myers than Zdeno Chara. I think he'll play somewhere around 215, maybe 220 if he gets on a very good strength program.

From what I remember, his pivots need a lot of work. He was sloppy transitioning on the rush and got beat by forwards on the outside more than a few times. Likes to chip the puck out but he did rush the puck a few times. Actually remember him dekeing his way through an opposing forechecker. Other than his size, nothing was really remarkable about him. Definitely a project.

To add; One thing that I do remember is the Otters announcer saying that he had recently become more of a scrapper. He goes to bat for his teammates and answers the bell if needed, but he's not a guy who goes out and challenges heavyweights off the draw very much.

Thanks for the scouting report!

any chance that Dane Fox will be signed??? i know he was at development camp last year and they still did not sign him...

I would doubt it. Especially if they chose Donnay over him from his own team.

i believe he was hurt last year. maybe he will still get a tryout with Hartford Wolfpack or signed to an AHL contract.. their is no limit on AHL contracts??

I saw him play quite a bit in Erie. His ceiling is a third pairing defenseman. He wore a letter this season and is a decent leader. Played 20-25 minutes a game and usually looked winded. Not physical enough, and keeps it simple. He could really put on some pounds. When he came from London in 2012, he showed a lot of promise. With a bigger role last season, he usually looked out of place some nights. Donnay is a project and a half, and proof that "you can't teach height".

Maybe this tower was signed to ensure the team average height stays level with the intention on signing Tolchinsky.

This kid is likely a 4-5 year project. Big men take time to develop.

I remember the reaction to the Girardi signing around here. Someone should resurrect that thread. Might be good for a laugh or ten.

Anyway, I have no problem with these things. You just never know.
