Confirmed with Link: Rangers sign Benoit Pouliot (1 year, $1.3M)

Yes, I know this is an overrated stat (sometimes), but he was a team high +8 on a minus strong TBL squad. Also, was a +18 the year before in Boston... I wonder if he plays PK?

Edit: FTS's highlight package includes a shorty while he was with Boston.... Even better!

No more so than if we hadn't made these three cheap deals today. We can go 10% over the cap in the summer. We won't lose anyone to an offer sheet if we don't want to. We can match anything realistic. Just would have to move people afterwards.
 
People here are crazy if they think this is a bad signing. This has huge potential to be one for the best signings we've made in a long time.

Bottom 6 has been greatly upgraded today and I love it.

Dawes was/is certainly good enough for a bottom 6, carcillo has been to the cup finals what twice now?


Not to mention tons upon tons of people love this signing, even people of other teams are saying its a good deal. at 1.3mil its a steal.

Carcillo isn't even getting his name on the Cup.

It's not a bad signing, it's just nothing to get uber-excited about.

who said anything about "uber excited"? This is about you saying the guy sucks when he obviously has talent and it's not like he was brought in to play with nash and his cap hit is freaking 1.3MILL!

Go look at what clarkson is making and cry yourself to sleep in joy :laugh:

Try again. I wanted to steer clear of Bickell, Clowe, Clarkson, Horton and co.

All I was trying to prove was that highlights don't tell the whole story. Or is that not the common belief here by now?

If anyone is acting "uber-excited" its because its a great move by sather and co. We need depth in the worst way. We need depth that can play and chip in offense. That has been our achilles heel for the last two seasons. It sunk us in the ECF in 2012.

I am uber-excited. This is more competition in camp for AV to work with.

Well, people are already calling it a steal when he hasn't played a game yet.

Of course he has talent; that's why he went 4th overall. But inconsistency and shying away from physical play has hindered him. Talent isn't enough to get by in this league.

Highlights haven't been the only thing posted. In fact there was only one post used for highlights. Its ok to post some videos of the guy.

We have talked about stats and overall play as well. Tawnos has provided substantial information on why TBL didn't qualify him. This is a good signing all around. We could actually put out a 3rd line that can chip in offense.

Can he PK?

Sure. I'm very happy that we stayed away from the disastrous "top-end" of this UFA class today and focused on the under-the-radar type signings. But all I'm saying is that we didn't just "steal" anyone. Perhaps "gross" wasn't the right word. Maybe, "insignificant?"

I guess we will find out in camp. I don't think i'd call it insignificant.

its a good bottom six depth signing. what's not to like? you want a 30g scorer for 1.3m?

Well, posting three videos to disprove that he "sucks," isn't really telling me much. But I shouldn't have posted that he sucks, just a very average player in the league.

I agree. Maybe in a vacuum, Pouliot isn't that important. As part of crafting a functional third line, for the first time in a couple years? That's really big for the team.

Sure, on an ELC :sarcasm:

Pouliot doesn't strike me as an effective bottom 6 player. Not very good defensively, not physical. Sure you want your bottom 6 to help carry the load offensively, but they should also be wearing down the opposition.
