Do we expect Wall to stay for year 4? Otherwise that will be more competition.
I think he should. Don't know what the Rangers have planned for him, however. Would imagine either he or Huska are in the ECHL if that's the case.

Good, have always liked him.

He got off to a decent start but then slumped. So then he started splitting starts with Vomacka, who looks great. Huska kept playing poorly and Vomacka took off. Vomacka is having z great year on a bad team, and in the end Huska had a bad year on a bad team. Glad it didn't cost him a contract though because he has talent.

Does this mean they don't believe in Lindbom anymore?

Not at all. Goalies tend to develop later. Lindbom is 19 I believe. Huska is going to be 22 in May. They probably arent looking to being Lindbom over for 3 more years, which would be when Huska's ELC is up. The Rangers can then decide if Huska is worth another contract and if Lindbom has developed enough to get a contract.

Wall should stay one more year in college. Last year was a bit of a lost season for him. Injured and didnt play much. Hes had a very good season this year. I see a ton if potential in him.

Why jeopardize an NHL career for 1 free year of college?
Wall was a 5th round pick, IIRC. It's very unlikely he even plays an NHL game in his career.

Yeah, he can ride the bus in Hartford or a plethora of other AHL teams for 50 or 60 thousand per year for the next 7 to 8 years, but he's going to need a career after that. Not all retired players become scouts or front office members after their playing careers are over. If you have your Bachelor's degree after your playing career, it makes the transition from playing to the real world a lot easier.

I agree with all of this but I don't recall Wall getting injured. He was just awful for a long stretch, lost his job, had a chance to get it back, put up a couple decent starts, then sucked again.

Huska was injured for parts of last season.

Oops I thought he was talking about Huska.

Wall actually will probably stay another year, he is in a better situation to stay and is almost a year younger than Huska. He might turn out to be better than Huska. Wall was 6th round pick.

Thought he had an ankle injury in the beginning of last season.

Good goalie depth for the minors next year. Might get a few games this year. They've already traded away Tokarski and Mazanec. Halverson might get a contract. Nell most likely out the door.

Thoughts?

Actually they didn't trade Tokarski--they loaned him to Charlotte but his contract's up at the end of the year anyway---so he's a goner.

However Halverson finishes for Hartford this year might make or break whether he gets another contract. Lately he's been pretty solid. I think Nell is gone.

On Huska--welcome to the fold. I have to say I think Wall is as good if not better.

Wall was a 6th round and Huska was a 7th. Wall's had an excellent year--a 2.07 GAA and a .922 save %. Huska played for a shittier team and had a 3.34 GAA and a .896 save %. I suspect that Huska will spend some time in the ECHL next season. But really UConn wasn't going to be any better next year and if he stayed he'd be spinning his wheels.

Where a player was drafted means a lot less for goalies than it does skaters in terms of making it to the NHL.
The two aren't mutually exclusive, but I can see how you read it that way.

My opinion that Wall is unlikely to be an NHL goalie is independent of his draft position.

As I’ve said for years he should have never went to UConn. He’s a much better goalie than his stats show. I’m looking forward to seeing him at the next level.

Huska has potential for sure. Benoit will do wonders with him I presume. Another AHL depth goalie signing and we are set next year with 6 keepers in the future organization. A position of strength, although I think we might draft 1-2 later rounders (Europe/NCAA?) this year if we keep most of our picks...

Vomacka this year has been great. You can succeed as a goalie on a shitty team if you have the talent. Huska did it the first two years, wasn't doing it this year. Professional talent evaluators obviously take into account the play of the team in front of the goalie. That's why Huska got a deal. Going to UConn didn't hurt him. Unless you want to criticize UConn's goaltending coach and say he'd be better elsewhere, I don't see the problem.

It’s hard to perform consistently well on a bad team. Huska showed talent. Needs to learn to always stay mentally focused.
