Post-Game Talk: Rangers @ Sharks: The LOL Edition

Before talking about five goals lets talk about zone responsibility.

awful team effort. but Giradri, the past 3 games, hasn't looked anywhere as good as he looked in the past 2 seasons. In fact, I'd go as far to say he's been the worst dman these past 3 games. Constantly making blind board plays in his own zone to the opposing team, errant passes in his zone and neutral zone, and unable to handle a pass in the O zone.

So wanted to go with Malik but opted for Richards because a 9-2 drubbing is probably the last time he'll be the best chance for POTG.

IDK what's more disgusting, the way the Rangers played or the fact that I switched them off in favor of watching the Devils and Vancouver.

Can we go back to defense first, sacrifice, and jumping in front of pucks? This "AV system" seems to be producing great offense, just on the wrong side of the puck. ...oh and let Henke use his older, bigger pads! His 5-hole was always big, now, it's epic!

No, Torts and his offense-stifling system was the reason we weren't winning cups.


Now we are going to see what this team is without a great coach and this is what we get. Torts had guys playing over their heads but that aspect is gone now.

We'll be pretty good, make the postseason, but it will be clear to everyone (looking from an unbiased position) that we aren't as good as we were the last couple of years. And certainly not putting out the maximum effort that we did the last couple of years as well.

Maybe I'm old school, bitter, a dick, likely all 3, but in my opinion when you are pulling the between the legs shot for your 4th goal when your team is up 8-2 you deserve to get a response.

I hate this opinion in sports. Either you're against running up the score, or you're not. Why beating the goalie with a sick wrister is ok, but making a sick move to score on a goalie is showboating? It wasn't like he flipped it like that into an empty net just to show disdain. He had enough space to use a move he knew the goalie wasn't going to expect, and gave him a high chance of scoring. There's nothing wrong with that.

I came in 2nd place in a Judo tournament last spring, and in the last match I was up on points, and my opponent would need ippon to win. With time winding down I opted to fight out of guard instead of letting them stand us back up. I wound up getting an omoplata (submission technique), and twisted it for a submission. Everyone on both teams was cool with it, but one jackass followed me around the tournament harassing me about showboating. I didn't choose the omo because it would be a bad-ass way to finish the match (although it was), I wind up in position for it, and knew my opponent wouldn't see it coming as it's primarily a BJJ move and not a Judo one.

Sometimes a flashier move is the ideal move in a situation.

I think the point he's making is that at 8-2, did he really need to go all Marek Malik on Biron to score in that spot?

No one is upset that he scored there.

The part people are PO'd about is the manner in which he did it.

again, to me, the time to show emotion is looooong gont when the score becomes 9-2 regardless of the dipsy doodle way he did it.

going after the kid in that spot was meaningless.

This game felt like the doozy against the Pens back in November 2009 when Crosby scored a hat-trick on hat giveaway night. The 10-2 loss to Dallas was nearly identical too.

meh...making that play in the 14th round of the shootout is a lot different than doing it when the score is extremely lopsided. Most vets won't even do that because it attracts too much attention even to other teams who will see the play, It's kinda painting a hit me sign on your back...especially for the game still being played...course' we did nothing about it anyway.

I'd love to know a singular instance where a system produced a cup.

The only one I can think of is the Devils who, unsurprisingly, played more of a defensive system.

You guys can keep preaching more time, but all the time in the world isn't going to change that its all about the caliber of players.

so then why would someone suggest we go back to the old system? I would say Detroit's system is pretty special and although it doesn't win cups by itself, it seems to make players better, especially players with speed.

are all dekes hot dogging to you? Or just especially effective ones? Pavel Datsyuk humiliates goaltenders regularly, should someone "give him a beating?" What world do you live in that giving someone a beating is a rational response to a high-skill move?
