I feel like the Rangers are in a weird spot to be trading right now. The young guys are largely too valuable, the older guys too expensive and have limited value.

They sure looked bad against the Oilers though, and the Oilers have been very mid all season.

Too many of the key pieces we built the team around are in decline. Kreider is still effective net front on the PP but his 5v5 has disintegrated. Zibanejad has fallen off a cliff. Lindgren has physically broken down and fallen off a cliff. Trouba has not been good. That’s two of your top six forwards and two of your top four D, and about $28M in cap space. They had a decent start but the flaws are glaring and the record is way better than it should be because of Shesterkin.

I can completely understand why it’s confusing from the outside, but if you watch the Rangers 5x over the next month, you’ll see the same things that our fan base - and now, it seems, management - see. And they’re on their third coach since 2021. It’s not the coach. If they fire Laviolette that would be 4 coaches between 21-25 while making the ECF twice, which would be unprecedented. It’s the players.
