I like this.

He can still play and he's a vibe. Why not?
It's not always easy to find a backup goalie. In theory, you just start to look for guys who are not established starters and go from there. But a lot of those guys want to be starters. Being a backup is first and foremost about having a guy who accepts that role. He's fine being the guy who sits on the bench most nights, and his #1 job is to prop up the starter.

Having a young promising guy pushing the #1 can work, but it can also be a disaster for the dynamic.

Good. If he ever hits a wall we will do what we’ve done before and give Garand a shot when that time comes.

Great representative for our organization. I don’t think he could play 55 games any more (the guy has a reputation for sleeping 12 hours a night) but glad he’s here

Finding a good backup goalie seems easy but it's really not. The guy has to be the 'right' guy for that role. His teammates love him. Most of his starts are solid and he costs very little. This should allow Garand the ability to play a lot of games in Hartford which is best for his development and it means the Rangers are at least 3 deep at goalie in case of injury

Perfect fit on a crazy small contract. Could even be moved for a draft pick next season if a team needs a goalie.

Should have traded him to the Oilers for a 2nd at the deadline, then re-signed him in the offseason after he wins them a cup.
