Imagine if Lias Andersson was considered anything special by any scouting service we basically busted with our first pick of the rebuild and we still have the top prospect pool in the league. Amazing really

A. Lias graduated from being included in prospects consideration due to playing in the NHL.
B. Busted? Lol.

Keane and Jones are really nice prospects but even so. Reunanen was 12 in our own internal poll and Keane and Jones weren't in the top 15 and IMO our poll is much closer to reality than Pronman's.......but the main thing is Pronman got the big picture right. The Rangers No. 1 at Hockey's Future, Elite Prospects, The Athletic and The Sporting News. The aggregate scores for those 4 sites would go like this:.

1. New York Rangers-4
2. Los Angeles Kings-14
3. Colorado Avalanche-17
4. Montreal Canadiens-21
5. New Jersey Devils-23
6. Vancouver Canucks-24
6. (t) Flyers-24
8. Carolina Hurricanes-30
9. Ottawa Senators-36
10. Detroit Red Wings-43
11. Chicago Blackhawks-47
11. (t) Vegas Golden Knights-47
13. Anaheim Ducks-53
14. New York Islanders-54
15. Edmonton Oilers-55
16. Florida Panthers-59
17. Buffalo Sabres-67
18. Arizona Coyotes-73
19. Toronto Maple Leafs-85
20. Minnesota Wild-86
21. St. Louis Blues-87
22. Nashville Predators-92
23. Dallas Stars-93
24. Winnipeg Jets-94
25. Tampa Bay Lightning-98
26. San Jose Sharks-101
27. Columbus Blue Jackets-102
28. Calgary Flames-105
29. Boston Bruins-111
30. Washington Capitals-119
31. Pittsburgh Penguins-120

I'll note Pittsburgh is the bottom team. They are kind of old and in the next two/three years they are going to tank like nobody's business....and the Caps might not be far behind. As they go down we should be moving up in the division.
Don't worry they'll be gifted the next Crosby in short order.

2019 NHL farm system rankings: No. 1 New York Rangers
How do they think his skating is average lmao
This critique must be because he’s constantly compared to Hughes so they see his skating as a weakness; in no way is Kakko an average skater. His agility is phenomenal especially for a big kid at that age, his acceleration is really good as well

We should have drafted that Chytil kid instead.

This critique must be because he’s constantly compared to Hughes so they see his skating as a weakness; in no way is Kakko an average skater. His agility is phenomenal especially for a big kid at that age, his acceleration is really good as well

I think people fall into the trap of judging speed by how fast a player goes in a straight line, or how fast they "appear" to be going.

The problem with that is it doesn't take into account how well a player maintains speed when he has the puck, nor does it take into account mobility, the ability to change directions, etc.

I'll take a forward who rates as a solid "B" in straight ahead speed, but can control the puck and skate around players, then a guy who rates as an "A" but only if he doesn't have the puck and if no one is around him.

Eh, I don't totally disagree with portions of his skating being average. I do think his acceleration is a bit average right now, but once he gets going he is fast. His agility is well above average for sure. He has a ton going for him as a 18 year old, but I would agree that his skating can improve (and it will). He's still growing into his body.

Never been a big Pronman guy, but he certainly sticks to his opinions. Nice to see the Rangers at the top on another list, however. Tremendous credit due to the front office for rebuilding the prospect pool so quickly.

Still don't mind the fact that the pool is heavy on defensemen. Great defensemen are harder to find and I'm confident we can move bodies for a young forward if necessary.

Considering the bake time on D is longer than F, i don't mind that we pooled up on D so much the last 2 years (outside of K&K as the BPAs at their slots).

It lets the D and F mature within the same time window.

This coming draft we need to load up on C/Fs.

Wow, that list starts to get interesting once you start getting past the prospects that everyone can easily see.

You say interesting, I say BUSTS! Every single one of those 20-21 year who haven't become impact players yet at the NHL. BUST BUST BUST!

I like Keane and Jones, but they're too high. Gropp, Gettinger and Day are all too high as well.

Lundkvist, Rykov and Henriksson are too low.

I really don't get Pronman's apparent dislike for Lundkvist. Kid played his second season in the SHL at only 18 and was good and showed good improvement from the past season. No way Jones or Keane are better prospects than him and I like both of those players.

And his comments about Rykov are weird. He liked what he saw when he watched him but his box car stats didn't reflect what he saw so he doesn't know if he can be an NHLer bc of his low point totals? Kind of weird to me, I'd think watching him and liking what you see would assuage concerns about point total stats especially defenseman point totals in the KHL.

I think Kakko's stride isn't particularly nice looking, he seems a bit "wide" with it and doesn't look effortless like Hughes or someone. How a players stride looks tends to lend itself to a massive bias in how people judge their skating even if their speed and agility and ability to move around the ice is perfectly good.
Kakko's an excellent skater but his big strength with it is his ability to control the puck in tight spaces, change directions quickly and come out of corners, etc. Less of a "take the puck in the defensive end and fly past everyone in the neutral zone" kind of skater

I am not going to pretend to be an expert evaluator or claimed that I watched Kakko a lot. I focused on him a lot in the WCs when I knew we would be drafting him. His skating looked better than just average to me then.

Kakko isn't an average skater. His stride just takes longer. That doesn't make him slow but people interpret it that way. He has looked pretty fast on breakaways at every level so far

Don't worry AK, he hasn't had an intelligent take yet when it comes to Andersson

Funny since I’ve been saying since day one he wasn’t any good. Told me I was dead wrong and Now? you guys are praying he even becomes a bottom 6 player. Will be lucky to even get that far here. My guess is he won’t be in the Org very long.

He’s definitely not slow and his first step below the circles is top notch

Can you name 20 players from the 2017 draft who are better than him?

I can name 15 better prospects in the first round alone. That are all ranked way higher than him on every prospect list. Let’s not pretend this is news. Let’s not pretend I’m the only one that thinks it.
