Korczak:"Middle-six two-way center; power-play and faceoff specialist"

a stopper or reliable two-way center. The Colts used him on the penalty kill with Foerster, and even then, the slick pivot
seemed more comfortable gunning for takeaways..."

also, re Grubbe, his header lists as LW but comments cite as C

Emphasis on legit. Grubbe and Rempe are longshots, of the pros Barron is the only true NHLer and he may not end up a C. Funny to see Steve K’s take on Korczak given my last post haha.

That's how I'd rank our center prospects. I really like what I see from Korczak in a season where he was expected to take the next step. Watching the Moose Jaw Warriors regularly feels weird. I usually saw them only a couple of times when they played the Thunderbirds but now, I have a reason to tune in, and Korczak is a joy to watch each time.

I have a few NHL contacts outside the Rangers organization and all say the floor for Grubbe is 4th line center , all see him as a very good 3rd line center and if he ever hits his ceiling could be a 2nd line center. Don't sell him short as he comes back from his knee injury. Intangibles are off the charts with him.

I asked those 4 contacts to rank the prospects you ranked and they all came back the same.

Grubbe ( sure fire #3 center, if he develops could be a #2 center, if he busts is a #4 center) will play in the NHL
Korczak (was told that if he is not your #2 center, he is not on your roster)
Vierling
Rempe
Hendriksson- hearing no one outside the Rangers organization is high on him

Barron--I always considered him a wing, but the Rangers seem set on him at C, seems like a 3C at best but well-rounded
Korczak--I really like what I've seen so far, I think he has real scoring upside, skates well, works hard
Grubbe--I know the offense is underwhelming but he's a real meat-and-potatoes guy, big, strong, etc.
Vierling--shows some nice offensive skills but never really looks super involved to me, seems more like a support guy than a real driver of offense
Henriksson--there's obviously some skill there but I don't like the physical package; Frolunda has had him on the wing almost exclusively
Rempe--he's a JAG in the WHL, honestly; I don't see it even if he "opened eyes" by being gigantic and throwing his weight around in PDC
Tarnstrom--too early for me to make a judgment on him as I've barely seen him play; underwhelming numbers so far
Edstrom--has played C before but has been used almost exclusively at W in the past few years
Richards/Khodorenko/Rueschhoff--Richards maybe gets a few cups of coffee, the other two I don't think have enough

Our 3rd pairing has been a massive problem.

Gallant has done a MUCH better job managing Nils since his short exile from the lineup. Also though his best game was last night - he wasn't really noticeable anywhere, but thats not necessarily a bad thing. I'd rather low event hockey from Nils than the cluster f*** that has been most of his season.

Should still be trade bait.

He's big and strong, a real two-way guy. Not overly-physical in the sense that he's looking to crush guys, but he's just one of those guys who uses his body really well and can just muscle guys off the puck but can still be a little chippy. He's always working hard out there. Good shot, decent skating. Good on draws, has won 56% this year. I don't know firsthand obviously but he's a good character guy, as he was named captain in his second season with Red Deer which you don't see that often. He blew out his knee last March.

Yeah, he was okay last night, which for him is good. The Rangers really seem committed to developing him in the NHL, which I don't fully understand when you have someone like Jones down there, but whatever. If he wasn't so accomplished in Sweden, I'd be really pissed off that he's getting time on the roster.

Kravtsov had no points, and surprisingly was the only forward on Traktor without a SOG. He played about 15 minutes.

Aaltonen had an assist in just under 12 minutes.

This is really interesting, wonder what skill he brings to an NHL lineup aside from his defensive awareness. On Korczak i guess i kinda see where thats coming from but i dont think its that black n white with him.

Is Korczak a defensive liability?

I still consider Henriksson as a C prospect. He plays with Joel Lundqvist at C who at like what 39-40 hardly take care of the majority of center duties in today’s game. Henriksson is there to cover up for him, cover a ton of ice, be the first guy back, turn the play and move the puck out of trouble.

I definitely agree that he should be considered a center, as while Frolunda doesn't use him that way, it seems pretty clear the Rangers view as as a center and will give him every chance to succeed there. I will add however that this season he has still been deployed on the wing despite no longer playing on that top line with Lundqvist and Friberg; he has been on the second or third line centered by Spacek with either Niederbach or Olsen on the opposite wing.

Unfortunately suffered season ending knee injury shortly after the WHL's season got underway. Just prior to that had been given the captaincy of a Brent Sutter led team at age 17- speaks volumes about his charachter and leadership. Powers his way around the ice with great knee bend and digs hard into his edges. Moves impressively for his size, shifting past checks at the last second and regularly beating defenders wide. Easy burst can even win races in tight. Plays the game with urgency and is gritty and competitive. Relentless in puck peursuit. Has a strong net front presence and screens goalies well. Jumps into the rush with purpose, working smart passes on the fly. Funnels pucks of the wall into the middle with a soft touch. Stick can let him down in tight areas, but it had improved from last year. Wide skating base for good balance.
Projection: Fast rugged 3rd line grinding role player
Style compares to Josh Anderson

As for Korczak, in the Hockey News Draft Preview -McKenzie said that scouts see a savy operator who is capable on the power play but struggles when games get tight and when he has to penetrate scoring areas for chances. One scout said " its easier to produce from the outside in junior than in the NHL. Thats something he is going to have to learn to do it in a more difficult manner or a complex manner. He's real good on the power play and really good if you give him space. But he doesn't earn a lot of space and if you take it away from him, he still hasn't reached the point where he would help create it.

This does not sound good because come playoff time he will be nowhere to be found when the games get tight.

Thanks for sharing, but, just my thinking,
I wouldn't overly invest in a pre-draft scouting report as an indicator of what the kid will become.
Yes its good to know here we could improve. If you/we are aware of those comments, it is very likely that he is too.
Along his path to becoming a pro, he'll have had multiple years of coaching and teammates and situations and experience.
His game will mature, and round out, if he wants it and works at it.

Agreed in part but his size doesn't help either with this. He is small and plays small.
