Sweden plays a 4-Nations game at 9 a.m. ET. I wouldn't expect Ollas to get the start given the last game, LOL. Tärnström should be back in on the second or third line. They plan Finland.

Frölunda and Henriksson play a Champions League game against Zurich at 2:15.

Rögle and Edström have their Champions League game at 1:05, against Munich.

Nothing for Tärnström and as expected, Ollas took a seat. The other goalie stopped 33/35. Tärnström only played 11:15 and had one shot.

Edström had no points and three shots in 14+. Rögle tied the game with 20 seconds left and then was awarded a penalty shot 14 seconds later. Old friend Adam Tambellini converted and Rögle won. Tambellini was fantastic in Allsvenskan two years ago and very good for Rögle last year.

Seems the scouts who questioned Tambo's toughness as the biggest inhibitor to NA hockey were right, but good for him finding a high level league where his skills translate.

Tambo carving out a decent career for himself in Sweden. Sucks he never made it, because it would've made the 2013 third round an epic one for the Rangers.

They picked 3 times in the 3rd round that year, getting Buchnevich and Duclair as well.

Henriksson had two shots and was even in 16 minutes.

I think Henriksson has played 4 straight on Frölunda’s top line, got 3 pts in 5 games, right?

Anyway, he was very good in preseason last year too. But he is a year older now, hopefully trending in the right direction.

Yeah, the first 3 games were pre-season though. I don't really count those.

Yeah, the first two were exhibitions. He played most of last year on the top line with Lundqvist and Friberg, too. Hopefully this season there's more production. Would be nice for him to take a big step forward.

Yeah, 2 more years in Sweden, then Hartford at age 22. Might not be the amazing trajectory we had hoped for but coming over at age 22 isn't terrible.

It's no different than a player going the college route for 4 full years.

I want to see him produce against men before I worry about him coming to play in the AHL in two years. I'll give him a pass for last year because he was very young for the league. He still is young for the league, but it's his third go-round against adults.

Sure, one step at a time. But with him not being AHL eligible until 2023 anyway, SHL is all he has.

I saw a couple of periods of Frölunda’s game.

I like Henriksson a lot still. Every time he got the puck he finds a teammates blade in a solid position. A good news is that he also plays PK this year and was on the top PK unit.

That line is a little special. Joel Lundqvist is 39 y/o, and he has always been more of a checking line center type. He plays a hard game, takes the body and forechecks well. But… Like he has never been great in the SHL and the last 5 seasons has been a steady decline, albeit not at a rapid pace. Not to make excuses for Henriksson, but he certainly isn’t getting to be a passenger on his line in any way, shape or form. He is the first guy back, he is often then one starting the break out. And that break out turns into a forechecking/circling game. That line plays the ‘right way’ and is the typical CF% positive line, but Friberg is a instant shooter and Joel is always crashing the net. Henriksson gets room to create offense by himself, taking the puck to the net, and he does that, but overall that line just got a “flat” vibe. Kind of like a NHL line centered by Ryan Getzlaf today if you get what I mean.

I would have liked to see a bit more development in Henriksson’s overall motor. Like agility wise, he is elite. Like if a puck bounce into a corner, he can do a 180, get there and pick up the puck, do another 180 and pass it to a team mate — despite it looking like a situation you never come away from with the puck — before anyone can react. But the ice is biiig in these games in Europe and teams loves to slow the pace time, turn home before heading up ice. It takes a different kind of motor to put Ds on their heels on the counter attack and that is something that he isn’t showing. I do hope, and at least some degree expect, he to be better fit in NA in this regard. When a center gets to a lose puck at center ice in the defensive zone he won’t need binoculars to spot the defending Ds because they left the zone early.

He got the offensive vision, he got the work ethic, that ability of like a Marty Straka to always be where his line needs him to be, he just makes his teammates better. BUT — he just needs to be able to push the pace more, to put Ds on their heels, and he isn’t there. Not yet at least.

Yeah I know Frölunda will never "drop" Lundqvist as he's a legend, but it's going to be increasingly hard for them to win with him as the 1C. He's still an excellent all-around player but you could do a lot better from an offensive perspective. Friberg is also a strong all-around player but again doesn't really have that high-end offensive ability. They'd make a great second line, but as a top unit they leave something to be desired.

If Henriksson sticks on the PK that's big, because based on what I have seen to this point I don't see a role in the bottom six for him. He improved his 200-foot game last year for sure and is always willing to engage but isn't exactly strong on the puck or a guy who is going to win many board battles. Kind of like Colin Blackwell in that regard. Has the right mentality to play in the bottom six but maybe not the skill set. But, if he can add that to his game and excel in that area, that definitely expands his possible paths to the NHL.

Yeah, that would be big. And I think we are going to see more of those type of 4th line Cs in the future. Like TyJo centered Tampa’s 4th line. We somewhat saw it with Dom Moore with Orr.

Somehow you just must find ways to be patient with these guys. Many good players has played 4 years in college, and then when they come to the NHL they are far from — instantly — cutting it in all aspects. Kev Hayes had big issues his rookie year, right? Even his second year many were really down on him. Carl Hagelin took big big strides 3-4 years into his pro career. And like if guys like Hagelin and Hayes needs 6-7 years, so will many many others.

I am also not sold on bringing KH to camp. I can’t say that I am convinced that it’s a bad idea, but it comes with consequences. Maybe it would have been better to let him settle in in the SHL. But it could be good too. Give him a bench mark for what he will be up against.

Is Pajuneimi going to be in NYR PS camp this season?

He doesn't seem to be on anyone's radar outside of our fans and even then, we are so stacked he doesn't get much talk amongst us either it seems outside of a few of you Euro guys who watch locally.

I'm very curious to see if he makes some noise in camp if he's invited.

Yes, I asked him a few days ago and he's expected to fly in around September 6th.

Yeah I think like Reunanen he's a guy that normally we would be keeping a very close eye on, it's just there's such a group at young wing that it's almost impossible to envision a spot for him in New York this season.

I think most of us are hoping he gets first line minutes in Hartford this season, playing with guys like Barron and Brodzinski. A solid year down there could stand him in good stead of getting a look the following season, depending on how Kravtsov and Kakko have progressed.
