What Makes a Prospect?
​

A player will be considered a prospect until he meets the following criteria:​

• If a prospect is a skater (forward, defenseman) and has played in 65 NHL games or more before the completion of the season of his 24th birthday; or, if a goaltender has played in 45 NHL games before the completion of the season of his 24th birthday, that player will be considered graduated to the NHL. Conversely, if a player completes the season of his 24th birthday without passing those milestones, then that player will no longer be considered a prospect by Hockey’s Future, regardless of the player’s status with his NHL club.
• An NCAA player who signs his first contract at or above the age of 22 has three years to meet the above criteria (65/45), while those NCAA players that turn pro under the age of 22 will be subjected to the criteria above.
• European players who sign their first NHL contract at or above the age of 22 have three seasons from the time they sign that contract to meet the above criteria. Those European players below the age of 22 that have signed a NHL contract will be subjected to the criteria in section one.
  
  NOTE: These are general guidelines and should be followed the majority of the time but certain players may still be listed as prospects if circumstances warrant.​

Crawley and Fontaine aged out. Hajek and Shesterkin hit the games played threshold.

Newell, Ronning, Gettinger, Rykov, and Huska could be gone, but we'll see. Newell and Rykov seem likely but I'd guess the others stick around.

Rumors are Lindbom to Kristianstads and Ragnarsson to Almtuna, both in Allsvenskan. Similarly, Tarnstrom speculated to be moving to Rögle which would be a good move for him.

Personally, I can live with Rempe at that point. At that point the dreams often outweigh anything remotely close to the result. I was hoping to take Valade though.

It’s funny, Garand, Vierling and Berard were all kids I would’ve been fine with in the third. So getting them after Tarnstrom was awesome.

But I probably would’ve taken Biondi, Pytlik or Nybeck there. Or one of the prospects we took later, and then maybe someone like Powell.

Regarding Rempe, it's interesting. I get a real feel from the last couple of offseasons that the org made a concerted effort to buy lottery tickets in late round picks/UDFA signings on the chance of developing an absolute beast or two to play in the bottom 6. And so far, there's still some hope for Edström and Ruesschoff, which on top of Schneider and Cuylle, actually gives them quite a bit of beef in the prospect ranks.

Kinda ironic given JG and JD got fired at least in part for the team not having enough muscle.

It is something they consider - with the idea being their parents supplemented they're training and the kids have an idea of what being a pro entails.

Same here. I'm a Thunderbirds fan and did not understand the pick AT ALL. Nothing against Rempe but the pick made no sense to me. I want to be excited about my favourite pro-team drafting someone from my favourite junior team but first Gropp and now Rempe aren't really filling me with joy

Yeah I'm not knocking the pick. He had an interesting profile and if, somehow, his skating took off, you'd have an interesting prospect. I mean his offensive instincts aren't great but the size/strength combo could be great if he could skate.

To your point, if he's 6'0, 185, he isn't getting drafted, but yeah there's the hope that some time to cook maybe gives you a unique option down the line.

Yeah, the names I was hoping for were Fontaine and Johannesson. Get kids who are a year older, a year further into their development.
