What Makes a Prospect?​

A player will be considered a prospect until he meets the following criteria:

If a prospect is a skater (forward, defenseman) and has played in 65 NHL games or more before the completion of the season of his 24th birthday; or, if a goaltender has played in 45 NHL games before the completion of the season of his 24th birthday, that player will be considered graduated to the NHL. Conversely, if a player completes the season of his 24th birthday without passing those milestones, then that player will no longer be considered a prospect by Hockey’s Future, regardless of the player’s status with his NHL club.

An NCAA player who signs his first contract at or above the age of 22 has three years to meet the above criteria (65/45), while those NCAA players that turn pro under the age of 22 will be subjected to the criteria above.

European players who sign their first NHL contract at or above the age of 22 have three seasons from the time they sign that contract to meet the above criteria. Those European players below the age of 22 that have signed a NHL contract will be subjected to the criteria in section one.

NOTE: These are general guidelines and should be followed the majority of the time but certain players may still be listed as prospects if circumstances warrant.

DeAngelo is still considered a prospect correct? He only played 39 NHL, HF prospect criteria is 65 games.

(mainly the question is so he is added to the prospect polls in a few days)

Yeah definitely. I mean he'll hit the games cutoff this year but he's still good to go.

Thing is, HF proper is now defunct so we can really go by whatever standards we want.

From the reading I've been doing here, and based on the fact that Oscar and Marek are gone...I'd say Andersson has an absolutely legit shot at #4 C if he impresses in camp. I mean...who is his competition? Nieves? I hope he crosses the pond and grabs a 4th line C spot right away.

I know nothing about Chytil...but he's really young. Stay in Europe for another year?

Either is fine, really. Let his play dictate his league.

I want him playing in a men's league in NA.

I would say that its fine to play in KHL, Liiga or SHL, but you can't control his minutes there, so NA it is.

No sense going to play junior and scoring 100 points after playing pro hockey already, and the Czech League is not going to prepare a player for the NHL.

Why, so he can proceed not to put up any points in the AHL and you can bash him all year like Kovacs?

Let him put up points in the Czech league, scoring 8 points last year isn't exactly lighting it up. There is no rush with him.
 
Chytil is so young that I'm not worried about his league. Even if he's playing in the Czech Extraliga, which has taken quite a hit in the past decade, he's still playing against men and that's still a positive for his development. He's not a superstar and he's unlikely to dominate that league so it could still be beneficial for him. I'd rather he play there than the ECHL.

He got little ice time. He was 17 almost all of the season, was 16 at the beginning of it.

He wasn't picked in the first round due to his stats this year. Give him more ice time, let him develop, and he should be able to keep up at the AHL level. If not, ECHL is fine, also. But I think both are good enough for the AHL.

Vice versa, IMO. Think Chytil would benefit coming over. Even though he plays against pros in Czech league, HC Zlin is not a good team. They were on the verge of relegation this past season. Think he could benefit going to the SHL, instead.

Andersson, however, could actually push for a bottom 6 role next season with NYR, IMO, but think he stays one more year with HV71.

Edit: If he goes back to Sweden, he'll be playing for Frolunda, not HV71. My mistake....

What? Did you even check what his average TOI was? 13 mins and it got closer to 17 mins later in the season. Not sure what ice time you expect a 17 year old to get.
Seems like you just made up your own argument for him coming over, which would be imo be a wrong decision given he should be Zlin's 1C/2C next year.

Agreed. Let Andersson light it up with Dahlin in the SHL. Chytil would be interesting in a sheltered AHL role, but I'm iffy about him staying in the Czech league.

I believe he's 24 already, so while I think he technically can be considered a prospect, I wouldn't consider him one. I believe at his stage right now he will be a top AHL dmen or a good 3rd pairing guy immediately with a lot of room for improvement from there. He reminds me of a Brendan Smith type of player.
