BINGO! You finally figured out how trades work. You need a GM who is interested in what you want to give away. I love that this is all over Nicklas Jensen not wanting to come back. If he's not good enough to compete with Peter Holland, Cody McLeod, Vinni Lettieri and Boo Nieves, that's all you need to know.

Exactly. He's going to Northeastern for 2019-20. Interesting that he chose the BCHL rather than USHL. But it's pretty standard practice for guys to play juniors before college, usually to bulk up since college hockey is so physical.

I’m wondering if they’re actually going to be linemates this season. The omission from the Hlinka is still mind boggling, but it’s gonna be really fun to see how Newhook compares to other notable BCHL players in his draft year.

That could go one of two ways, they saw a lot of Wahlstrom while looking at K'Andre and decided his game wasn't as good as Krav's.

That's a good point. While scouting the USNTDP, they obviously saw enough to trade up for K'Andre Miller, which means they should have seen enough to judge Wahlstrom. Maybe there was something in Wahlstrom's game that they were missing.
 
The 3 players Rangers drafted out of BCHL in the past were all busts. Fogarty who is likely a bust also did that weird decision to waste a year in BCHL before college.

maybe, have there been any top line players that were drafted out of that league? Zajac not really a top line.

It's not a weird decision. Go look at the majority of college rosters and see where they played and how old they are. We signed Neal Pionk as a 22 year old sophomore. He played two years of junior after his draft year. In the words of Brian Colangelo's wife "find a new slant".

and that is why he was never drafted. It is weird to play in USHL until 20 years of age.

It's really only weird for top picks like Clayton Keller or Wahlstrom or K'Andre Miller. A lot of the late round picks are long shots anyway and feel that that extra development is beneficial. The vast majority of college hockey players play at least one year of juniors before heading to college.

If you are referring to top prospects then yeah none of them will age out playing jrs. But theres actually only a handful of true freshmen playing NCAA. Maybe having the ability to play with Newhook was more appealing to him than playing in the USHL. It will be hard to read Hughes this season because he will load up pts playing alongside Newhook, and expectations will be higher than normal. 7th rounders are shots in the dark
 
There is also a big difference between players being drafted out of the BCHL and players who go to the BCHL after the draft.
 
Many of the better college programs will ask the non-elite prospects like Hughes to start their commitment a year later, and then play a year in Juniors to continue their development (particularly physical). So that way when they arrive on campus in two seasons, they're more mature across the board and ready to handle to college game where the players are generally older and more mature. Not a lot of 18-year-olds are ready to hack it in NCAA D1.
