I think what would make the most sense is some sort of tournament of prospects. All the best prospects from the AHL (and elsewhere?) come together in an all-star prospects tournament. They could even have a fantasy draft where players end up on like 6-8 different teams. It could be televised as i think many fans would love to watch this. almost like a World Juniors tournament for prospects 20-23 years old. But with a longer stretch of games/series that lasts a month or two.

And whatever rev is generated goes to back to the AHL teams to help them get back on their feet when this is over. Obv huge hurdles. Insurance likely being one of the biggest.
Interesting! Is this actually being discussed anywhere? I like the idea.

And Toronto jumps from 21 to 4 just by changing the criteria and putting Austin Matthews at the top of their list. That’s silly

Ok now I don’t understand how the devils are #2. That’s gotta be on the backs of Hughes Hischier and Smith but that’s hardly that impressive. Bratt is 22 so he’d count.

I mean regardless NYR to be ranked in the top 2 BEFORE adding Alexis Lafreniere is scary good
Agreed, and while a team like LAK doesn't have the NHL pieces I'd much rather have their farm system and by adding Stutzle or Byfield that should bump them up.

The Devils farm system is average and that is pushing it. They have easily been the worst drafting team in hockey going back to Lou's last 8 years there. Devils prospects have been vastly overrated for decades for some reason. Take Ty Smith. He is nothing compared to Lundkvist as a prospect but they keep ranking him higher which is laughable. After watching him some there was nothing in his game that would wow you. McLeod is a bust. Boqvist probably is also. So basically you have Hughes, Hischier and maybe Smith turns out to be a lower pairing defenseman who plays the PP. That isn't worth 2nd overall or even top 5. IMO. I'd much rather have what Colorado has with Makar, their top 2 picks from last year.

Now maybe if the Devils with 3 first round picks this year can actually show they can draft and develop prospects, they should be ranked higher. Not now.

I honestly have no idea why the devils are there. Really don’t.

if Toronto moved up from 21 to 4 because of Matthews I’m not sure how Colorado with Makar isn’t right there.

there’s no way nj should be higher than Vancouver none.

to put them ahead of us would just be laughable

He must love Smith.

Their system is really dime a dozen-y as it stands right now. Smith is the only guy in the system who you can put a star on as a good bet to be a top 4 D or top 6 forward.

I agree with you and just I'm guessing it is the impact of having TWO #1OA .

This is how Pronman is getting his player list:

It will not include skaters older than 22 as of Sept. 15, 2020, who have played 25 NHL games in a season or 50 career games; goalies with 10 games in a season or 25 in a career; nor any player age 26 or older as of Sept. 15, 2020.

So all players under 22 are considered. On top of that, if they are under 26 and don't have the proverbial NHL cup of coffee, they can be in the rankings as well. This opens more players that are still prospects.

With this as an option, the Rangers are going to be #1. Devils just have tons and tons of prospects. If the Rangers move #22, even with adding Lafreniere, their 3 total picks may end up exceeding his value. Will be interesting how the rankings get updated after the draft.

On the bright side, just imagine what happens to the Rangers in a post-Lafreniere world.
They go from #1 to... #1, but I really mean it? :)

The interesting thing about Pronman – say what you will about his rankings, but he at least is willing to admit when he is wrong. The Rangers' position on this list, whether it comes in at 1 or 2, will be in some part due to Nils Lundkvist's projection, so it'll be the result of reversing his take on a guy he initially had as an "eh" prospect.

It’s a fantasy. Logistically it would be impossible to organize in such of short time. This is not a beer league we’re talking about.

It is a fantasy, but if there's going to be any sort of AHL season or any sort of games, the NHL and AHL will have to get very creative to make it work. If they can come up with a plan that actually might have a viewership that would help.

Like anyone else, I agree with Pronman on some things and disagree on others.

As someone who produced content back in the day, long before some of these guys had stopped watching Sesame Street, I make it a point not to be too critical of the work that goes into these endeavors.

And make no mistake, it IS work.

I think the nhl if they aren’t going to use bubbles need to regionalize divisional travel this season and treat it like the nfl and mlb if they’re serious about moving forward. There may be some infections and teams may have to shut down for a week or whatever it might be. The only thing they can do is be super careful. Playing in a wide open hockey arena without fans is not going to be much different than playing in an open air stadium. Tons of testing social distancing mask wearing and an abundance of caution away from the rink when you’re home. That’s really it. They will have to decide if they want to risk it or not.

but nothing is going to change from dec to January. There won’t be a readily avail vaccine for months. I know they want people in the stands but that’s a fantasy for the foreseeable future that isn’t going to change anytime soon

The NHL is willing to risk anything to make a few bucks

Oh I know they’ll play I just don’t see why they’d delay it a month from the current plan. Nothing is changing in that 30 days except making the majority of your players sit longer than they already ever have in their careers

The number 1 ranking is not a surprise but some of his analysis will keep this board going for quite a while

1. Kaapo Kakko -- Special/Elite bubble
2. Adam Fosses -- High End
3. Filip Chytil -- High End
4. Nils Lundkvist -- High End -- Very good bubble
5. Brett Howden -- Very good
6. Vitaly Kravtsov -- Very good
7. Julien Gauthier -- Very good
8. K'Andre Miller -- Legit NHL
9. Mattthew Robertson -- Legit NHL
10. Morgan Barron -- Legit NHL
11. Zac Jones -- Legit NHL
12. Ryan Lindgren -- Legit NHL
NHL Potential
Libor Hajek
Austin Rueschhoff
Lias Andersson
Lauri Pajuniemi
Rangers get the top ranking
Patrick Khodorenko
Karl Henriksson
Leevi Aaltonen
Hunter Skinner
Tyler Wall
Yegor Rykov
Simon Kjellberg

There is so much to discuss but the things that struck me at first glance:
I like Brett Howden but 5th?
K'Andre Miller at 8th?
No Tarmu Reunanen?

but when you read the devils write up I still have no idea how they’re number 2. I mean it’s really thin

Continued NHL Potential

Pronman doesn’t really seem to have factored in recent developments at all.... Miller looking good in camp, Kravtsov and Andersson looking good in their respective leagues since startup, etc.

Which is understandable but I think they may be showing some of the things he wanted to see now.
