I honestly sometimes wonder if "throw puck and find out" is a good strategy for struggling power play units.
I've seen poor NCAA teams do it a lot on the power play in an umbrella set up, with three guys at the blue line and two fighting for position right in front of the net.
Yup, consider last year he averaged 2.8 shots per game and scored 13 goals (13% shooting). This year he's averaging 5.4 shots per game and has seen his shooting percentage plummet to 3.5%. He's at half of last year's shot total in basically a quarter of the games. Second in the entire league, trailing the first place guy by 8, with five games in hand.
If he shot like this last year, over 60 games, he would have led the league. As a defenseman.
Shot happy defensemen can really boost a team's forechecking. Not every shot is the right play but a shot on net is almost never a bad play. I hope he continues this.
