Gave the slight edge to Gabe. Though I go back and forth with Othmann so they are pretty even for me.

Add Sykora

I went Othmann. I think he's a safer bet to make an impact sooner than later. My gut says Perreault is going to be the better player though, and maybe MUCH better, but he's such a long way off, who knows? It's going to be 2 years at a minimum. After a year of college hockey, I'll hopefully be more certain of him.
Add Sykora.

I have a fundamental disagreement with people putting lower upside players higher simply because they are closer to the NHL.

Obviously "likelihood of success," has to be a factor, but lets face it, both Othmann and Perrault are almost guaranteed to see NHL minutes for a sustained career, whether thats 3 years or 12 years.

Once this threshold is established, you have to take the guy with the higher upside and that's clearly Perrault.

What’s our criteria? I always thought this was who will be the best player, not who’s closer to being ready

Also agree add Sykora

I'm a little surprised Berard is on here over Sykora, but I hope it does turn out that Berard is a better NHLer than Sykora, because I think Sykora is a safe bottom 6er eventually. If Berard is a good middle sixer some day that's a win.

What I was trying not to say was Perreault has more upside, Othmann is more sure. In combining upside, and how sure I am they will reach it, I had Othmann by a hair.

I'm not actually sure that Othmann is more sure. He's just closer.

I think people are either sleeping on Perrault or overselling Othmann.

I think at the end of the day Othmann is a middle sixer, maybe a second liner. He's a 50-60 point max guy, if things work out. Which I think he has a reasonable, projectable shot at.

Perrault is the guy who can score 70-80 points, though.

Othmann is closer to the NHL at this point, but how much "more likely" is he to be a 50 point player than Perrault is to being a 50 point player? I doubt he's much closer at all. Unless Perrault busts because of size or skating, if he makes the NHL, how is he not eventually a 40-50 point guy? He can't last in the league as a 20-30 point grinder. If he makes it, he's a top 6 scoring winger.

I don't buy at all, therefore, than Othmann is more likely to be at level X.

He's just older.

Berard gives me Ryan Bourque vibes. Hope I am wrong. Sykora looks more ready for pro hockey unlike Berard right now

yeah i'd have Garand, Sykora and Robertson ahead of Berard,
but, in any order, a solid and promising top of the pipeline
Berard was ranked 4th in the last poll. The first poll I always use the top players from the previous ranking. It will all shake out how it's suppose to in the long run. I'ts not like Sykora, Robertson or Garand would have won this poll anyway.

As much as I like Othmann and as close is he is as a pro, Im going with Perreault because his pedigree and ceiling is much higher than Brennans. He easily couldve been drafted top 10 in what could be the deepest draft of the decade.

Wheeler released his top 50 under 23 yo and he has Perreault 15th and Othmann 48th.

I get why some would choose Othmann, but in a pure prospect ranking its Perreault without a doubt IMHO

Note that I have Nikolas Brouillard on this list. He's 28 and so most would not consider him a prospect, but he has had an unusual career progression and this is his first NHL SPC. So to me he's no different than Gustav Rydahl or any older Euro signing.

Note that I have Nikolas Brouillard on this list. He's 28 and so most would not consider him a prospect, but he has had an unusual career progression and this is his first NHL SPC. SO to me he's no different than Gustav Rydahl or an older Euro signing.
Thank you as always for this list!

What’s our criteria? I always thought this was who will be the best player, not who’s closer to being ready

Also agree add Sykora
We've never had "official" criteria; it has always been up to the individual poster. IIRC we even had polls asking about whether we should develop official criteria but in the end, everyone wants to do their own thing. Some people do silly things like factor in organizational need. Sometimes the open philosophy works, sometimes it doesn't. In the end I think it usually evens out pretty well.

Early on I try to look at the "total package" a player brings, incorporating their upside, likelihood of reaching the upside, what they would become if they don't hit their upside (i.e. a bust or still something useful), and so on. After that first tier I tend to try to focus more on upside, unless there is a more limited guy that I'm sure will make it and really like. And then towards the end, because you're looking at guys with really slim chances, I emphasize the higher floor, lower ceiling guys. So I kind of do it all in tiers.

I made a poll on the main boards Othmann vs Perreault, right after we drafted Perreault. Perreault won by basically 2 to 1, and almost every person who voted Othmann was a Ranger fan. Virtually 100% of other teams fans agree its Perreault.

what's the criteria?

It's 1A and 1B

I'm going with Othmann just because he's won everywhere he's played. Also think Othmann would be better when needed.
