In defense of @cwede, he has voice his displeasure with the process for a while now, and has always offered alternative means by which the voting could be done. He doesn't just come in here to bitch and moan.

And then with respect to people who say they don't think a particular player should be eligible, that's always been a thing. I mean we use a standard criteria for prospect status just to be consistent. Even when people have had the opportunity to vote on whether certain ineligible guys should be eligible, I think in every situation the result ended up being to just stick with whatever the HF criteria determined for a player.

But in the end, everyone uses their own criteria regardless. There's no way around that and honestly I don't think you should try to legislate that. Some people want to vote for guys based on upside, some people based more on likelihood of making the NHL, some factor in organisational need, whatever. @Bacon used to try to tell people how they should determine a player's value and also broke things down into arbitrary tiers based on his own methods without input from the board. I think it all works best when people can do it how they want and interpret it how they want.

To the best of my knowledge, this is who we have left: kids that are eligible but not on the poll yet. This is also using HF's criteria so if anyone has an issue with it, contact HF--which is no longer a functional entity beyond these boards. Seriously, though, if you think anyone here does not qualify based of HF's criteria, please speak up so we can take a closer look.

We can't very well do "weighted choice," so in the realm of "close enough for punk," simple majority works.

If you think our group's choice as 6th prospect is stupid, then it would be an accurate representation that you think our group is stupid. =P
Stupid is your word Mr Kendo, not mine. I don't believe I have ever used it here, the many years
My comments are not meant to be about me, but just that this process we use, IMHO, reports results which don't really represent the thinking of the greater group.
In my example, the guy chosen 6th does not represent the group's ranking, not even a majority, not a 1/3. That's why I mention there could be a better way

Anyway, not trying to annoy anyone. Apologies.

Lol picked Schneider. Read it too quick. Didn’t see laffy. Don’t know how he’s still a prospect. But I would have picked him.

Given criteria that LaF is a prospect,
I voted LaF also

if LaF were not technically then it would be Nils L narrowly over that guy we should try at pivot, Kravtsov
Add Robertson

Nah, man. It's all good. I was just being playful.

I prefer to include the contrary votes, btw. Sometimes it's reactionary nonsense like "I read this thing somewhere that said blank," and sometimes it's a few people that have watched many games of said prospect and not just clips. However the vote turns out encapsulates that point in time whether it's ultimately accurate or not.

Btw, please keep participating, Mr. Cwede. You're not annoying.

No problem using criteria here. The “controversial” picks will be off the board for winger ranking and we can reset the board then. Not reason to be difficult about it.

Vote Lafreniere and get onto the next one. It’ll be more interesting.

not being difficult, just explaining my view
not criticizing

how is Laf considered a prospect? he played a full season all 56 games. so he should not be considered a rookie as of now especially going into next season. he should not be on this list.

The criteria is linked to in the first post. Here it is:

A player will be considered a prospect until he meets the following criteria:
If a prospect is a skater (forward, defenseman) and has played in 65 NHL games or more before the completion of the season of his 24th birthday; or, if a goaltender has played in 45 NHL games before the completion of the season of his 24th birthday, that player will be considered graduated to the NHL. Conversely, if a player completes the season of his 24th birthday without passing those milestones, then that player will no longer be considered a prospect by Hockey’s Future, regardless of the player’s status with his NHL club.

An NCAA player who signs his first contract at or above the age of 22 has three years to meet the above criteria (65/45), while those NCAA players that turn pro under the age of 22 will be subjected to the criteria above.

European players who sign their first NHL contract at or above the age of 22 have three seasons from the time they sign that contract to meet the above criteria. Those European players below the age of 22 that have signed a NHL contract will be subjected to the criteria in section one.

There's more language that allows for including/excluding people as circumstances warrant. Sometimes we vote on whether to do that and it always ends up that we stick with the above criteria. Posters can of course use their own criteria and not vote for people they don't think should qualify, but for the purposes of the poll it's important to have a standard definition. And since we've been using this definition for like 20 years, we still just roll with it.
