Yeah.......right? Why all the hate for Glass? It's a misguided hate, directed towards the HUGE contract he got. (sarcasm). For crying out loud, that's minimal for a PK block shot specialist that will put up some points. Have we forgotten Boyle made 1.75 I believe? Some bloated contracts on this team, we needn't be pinpointing Glass.

If you think the Rangers are getting half the player Boyle was here with Glass, you are completely uneducated on this situation.

Boyle was well worth his contract here, regardless of the unnecessary hate for him over the years with people him to be a 20-30 goal scorer.

Glass is a plug. Simple as that. A PK shot block specialist LOLOL. Glass isn't a specialist at anything. In fact, he's not even a good fighter, he's mediocre. Put up points? Really?

I can live with "bloated" contracts, what I can't live with are contracts that are so unnecessary, they literally make no sense.

And that's minimal? Have you seen what other players of his ilk have signed for? Many are even still waiting to be signed! We're seeing productive players go off the board for under 1 million/year.

I didn't want Glass for free. And I surely didn't want him for 1.45. We truly should have just kept Dorsett here.

Glass brings about as much offense as Dorsett. He's more likely to PK here than Dorsett was. Glass is not a great fighter but he can usually hold his own. He's certainly a better fighter than Dorsett. I'll not argue that Glass got a really, really good contract for what he brings but Dorsett was only going to be a few hundred K less. Contracts put aside--if I were to choose between Dorsett and Glass just as players I would choose Glass easily. Dorsett is just too small for the style of game he plays and he's too frequently injured.

An addict can and will find drugs anywhere, you're right about that.

However, NYC is a different animal. There are triggers everywhere. He won't stay clean here. Thinking otherwise is nuts.

That's a really unfair statement to make, and assumes a whole lot about the guy. Unless you know him personally you shouldn't make such a definitive statement.

My own personal experience and experiences of those close to me show me that everyone recovers differently. Some people prefer to confront their temptations head on, whereas others require avoidance and distraction to overcome. There's no "right" way to do it. And I think many people recovering from addiction will tell you that "I was in a place with temptations everywhere. I was doomed to fail!" is just an excuse. Part of recovering is taking ownership of your problem and learning not to blame it on external factors.

I mean, are there no recovering addicts in New York? Has no one in the City ever overcome substance abuse issues without moving far away? Come on. Some people may need to get away, others may find that isolating themselves increases the desire substantially. It may be true that with wherever Malone is at in his recovery, a place like New York is too much for him; it's also possible that it's exactly the type of thing he needs. You shouldn't pretend to know. Only Malone and his inner circle will know where he's at on his road.

I don't mean to go off topic, but I take personal umbrage at the idea that there's a defined way to go about recovery.

Dorsett is effective at the limited things he does on the ice. Glass is not. He's a lousy penalty killer and a bad forechecker.

I always liked Malone (well, I hated him on the Pens for obvious reasons), but I did not realize he had some personal demons. Still, I do not mind him on a tryout basis. You never know.

Not even 6 months after getting busted for driving drunk and drug possession, Malone is ready to resume his career. He didn't know where the coke came from and he was wearing the same pants for 3 days. That's the reason he didn't know where the blow came from. Who wears the same pants for three straight days? Here is a soon to be 35 year old player who has seen his better days and the Rangers are wasting their time investigating Malone and his playing future.

I completely disagree with this. Dorsett is a much better player then Glass. He PK's better and is much more dangerous offensively. Fights are worthless to me.

DD is the better player. So is Carcillo for that matter.

People talk like its impossible to get clean in NYC. Let me fill you in on something. People do get clean and stay clean in NYC by the hundreds if not thousand per year.

Some ppl need to get off their self righteous high horses. Good for him if he got clean. Hope he stays that way.

That being said even before the off ice issues his play was starting to slip. Hope he catches on somewhere but I doubt its w the Rangers.

Wouldn't be the first guy on the Rangers to use drugs and wouldn't be the last either.

You want to hate on Malone because you don't think he can play? that's one thing. But if the guy is clean, and can play, you give him a shot.

It is coming out apparently that this was pre-Hayes signing.
The Rangers probably wanted a big 3/4th line center/winger guy and Malone was their Plan B.

Hayes came through from the magic of our staff and now we are near or at our limit for contracts and near our cap limit. I dont see Malone getting signed.

I am still a little mad that we signed Tanner Glass but not resign Carcillo.
I am still mad we got Hunwick but not resign Diaz.

I want those guys but I dont see an issue with a low risk, high reward energy PF as in Malone.

Solid response because its truth. I guess you would like to see the Rockefeller Drug Laws come back the way they were originally written because no can ever get clean in and around NYC.

Not to mention per capita, Long Island is worse. Hell the LIE is know as the Heroin Highway.

I'm enjoying the people who believe NYC will make things worse for someone who is/was an addict. You can get anything anywhere if you want it. NYC doesn't make an iota of a difference. Ignorance reigns supreme in this thread, but that's not uncommon for anything relating to drugs/crime of any sort. Pot-heads! Coke-heads! Save us!

Come on.

I'm more concerned with the DUI, injury history, and his decline. Still worth a tryout. Nothing to lose.

Also, if he was wearing high-end selvedge denim, it's normal to be wearing them for three straight days without washing!

I believe Iowa is the US cocaine capital. So I don't think it matters where he goes. People get clean, hard to argue otherwise.

Also, when did he become a cocaine addict? 1.3 grams of cocaine is not a lot of cocaine. Unless I am missing other offenses?

The bigger problem with Malone is he's only scored 23 points in 81 games the last 2 years.

But for a tryout? No big deal.

Don't understand why people hate this. It's a tryout. We take a lotto-ticket chance that he comes in and resembles the very good player he once was. If not, we put him back where we found him. No risk.
