Too much like Tortorella. Hire Will Patton.

I like how New York is now the third toughest hockey market AV has coached in.

It has come to my attention that AV is going to be extremely tough on the rangers, I will look forward to the rangers islanders games now because it will be a frenzy

There is no guarantee for that.

Besides, the Rangers don't really have the depth to cover up for their losses. LAK also lost their #2 dman in Mitchell this year. Boston was playing without Seidenberg in that NYR series for the most part. Clowe had a warning sign with previous injuries in SJ, yet he was acquired anyways despite suffering an 'undisclosed upper body injury' earlier this season with SJS. Chalk that up to management for acquiring injury prone player. Every team is banged up and injured come playoff time.

That injury stuff is true for most teams. We couldn't survive our forward injuries. Well, if the Bruins had injuries to their forwards, instead of their D, then they wouldn't have even able to weather it nearly as well as they did. One of the big reasons the Kings lost to the Hawks was their injury issues. And they're considered deep.

The teams that win are often the ones with the fewest serious injuries. That's been true for 80 years.

I'm excited to see what he can bring to the team, specifically the defensemen/Stepan/Brassard, but I still feel kind of lukewarm about all this.

I didn't say Torts didn't know how to fix it. I said he DIDN'T fix it.

And never did I say that I have all the answers. I'm giving my opinions. Try to remember that.

Have you never commented on a move Sather has made and called it stupid? Are you better at evaluating players than Sather is?

I've made my point. I'm not going to keep repeating it, particularly when you'd rather argue things that I never said.

Why didn't Torts fix something that he knew wasn't working or is it your contention that he did not know it wasn't working?

My opinion of a move by Sather is different because that is a static topic where a result can be determined in the future. Your statement relates to a topic where the definitive evidence had already been displayed.

I find it somewhat ridiculous when Slats talks about playing more offensive puck possession hockey, while his coach states Rangers will get better players. Stick to your jobs, fellas!!

The issue being that AV will need more offensive talent to play a more aggressive game. Canucks were a very agressive team in 2011 when they went to the SCF; they would blow the zone before the puck was cleared and defensemen would regularly step up at the defensive blue line which would lead to a lot of odd-man rushes going both ways. Since then however, Canucks have maintained an aggressive forecheck (they have a wealth of D who can contribute to offense) but are much more conservative in their own end of the ice. Bottom line is that AV will adapt to a more conservative style to get the most out of his team just as any good coach would do.

Congrats to the Rangers for signing a great coach, though! :handclap:

Sather said he had begun thinking about a coaching change during season, was able to keep that from media.

Sather laughed and said Torts was "beyond stubborn" when it came to style of play

Andrew Gross ‏@AGrossRecord 1m
Asked whether Torts was open to changing style and about Torts being stubborn sometimes, Sather replies "maybe beyond stubborn."

Andrew Gross ‏@AGrossRecord 1m
Sather said he didn't doubt Rangers players played hard for Torts, just doubted how much they had left because of that style.

Vigneault "I haven't coached a lot of these guys...I am going into this with an open mind...there's a clean slate"

New York Rangers ‏@NYRangers 3m
Vigneault "it is my job to get the most out of them and I am confident I can do that..I will get to know them on an individual basis"

Vigneault says if everything he's heard about Ryan Callahan is true then Callahan will remain Rangers' captain. Not an issue.

I understand Zuccarello will be re-signed. Wonder how this coach will play him, AV says he loves offensive play, then Zucc should be one of his keys.

Vigneault says he doesn't expect to have much input into any decision regarding Brad Richards.

Tortz is gonna be the coach of the canucks, We just traded coaches ftw

Excellent hire. Your fans are going to hate it based on stereotypes that, unfortunately, some Rangers fans like to spread around, but don't listen to them. Tortorella isn't the reason Gaborik/Richards failed. Guy is a very good coach, but his stubbornness will get to people at times. Will be rooting for Vancouver on the side, hoping Torts has some success.

Mike Sullivan was fired?

If Messier is serious about wanting to be a head coach and not have it just given to him because he's Mark Messier, he should apply for an assistant coaching job. There's no reason not to give him that, IMO.

I was just thinking about how the Canucks had been trying to pry Brassard away from Columbus for years when I read this. Also the Clowe connection.
