No way Kesler gets traded. Also Kesler doesn't even like av ever since he was called out by him

I'd imagine Canucks trading / signing another left handed defenseman would be extremely low on the list of priorities.

Yea, I don't really know the Canucks roster situation all too well. Can't see the Sedin's leaving and don't know who else would fit for us that isn't named Kesler.

Fits mold of this team and the type of team the coach wants to have. Would feel like if he's injury prone a trade for a young defenseman could work but you never know.

Honestly, best scenario for Rangers fans would be to see Torts go to Vanc and then trade for his golden boy MDZ immediately thereafter.

meh the LHD thing is blown out of proportion, Garrison can play right side, Bieksa and Tanev are righties, and Corrado can play either side. If we are trading Edler I would want a LHD.

Boyle is his golden boy. I was nauseated at how much ES time Torts would give him.

They have no one to center their second line if Kesler isn't there. They don't have the depth to move Kesler.

He missed over half the season last season so someone must've centered the 2nd line. A lot of things can happen. You figure Luongo will finally be traded which will bring other assets back to VAN.

I get that; just looking at the defensive roster for the Canucks would be

Hamhuis - Bieksa
Edler - _______
Garrison - Tanev
Alberts/Ballard/Corrado

So unless Del Zotto can REALLY play that right side well, not much of a trade to be made sadly :P Maybe Torts can make a new Golden boy.

Newell Brown seems to disagree.

“When you're trying to run a power play with five left shots, which we were forced to do a lot this year, you're really swimming upstream. Seventy-seven per cent of the power-play goals are scored with at least two right shots, so that tells you a lot right there. Not to say there are exceptions to the rule, but when you have five left shots, or even four, your chances of scoring are diminished.

That is the most accurate analysis of someone I have ever read. The Cons will drive you crazy as time goes on. Biggest Con has to be conservative with a lead. If the Canucks didnt set a record for blowing 2 goal leads, then they came close to it. His line matching gets out of hand to the point of being stupid and his refusal to develop and play young talent wears thin.

Like most Canuck fans I loved AV initially but he wore out his welcome after last season. He has inherited a damn good team so would predict his first year will be a big success in NY.

Come on down AV! I believe this is the best available coach we could have got besides a Tippet,Babcock, or Bylsma. I wanted Boucher at first, but AV more then adequately fits the bill. Pretty much anyone but Messier.

Not bad. AV seems like a good guy (in interviews) who knows what he is doing for the most part. I rather have him instead of Mess or Ruff.

AV is infinitely better than Bylsma.

Regarding AV I'm not going to comment until I see us play for several games. I don't know nearly enough about him now to make a judgment on what I think of the decision. I did like the analysis posted about him though on that canucks blog. Seemed good and I like the things they say he provides (I mean if one of your main cons is "Doesn't do well with the media" that's pretty good). They didn't have too much negative to say about his actual gameplan disregarding treatment of young players (which is usually exaggerated focusing on specific situations - ex. Torts terrible with Kreider but overall pretty good there) and sitting back with leads (has potential to be extremely frustrating if he does this).

And I think everyone should stop criticizing Messiers candidacy. He's never coached before. You have no idea if he will make a good coach or a bad coach. Obviously Sather and the Rangers who have worked with him and interviewed with him will have a significantly greater handle on that situation than any fan on the outside. Using the "If it doesn't work out and we have to fire him what will happen then...?" type argument doesn't even make sense. 1. Why assume it won't work out? 2. If it doesn't that you just fire him the same as any other coach. He doesn't get special treatment once he's the coach (sure maybe he gets some special treatment beforehand such as saying he'd like to be considered/wants an interview but once that happened he's on the same plane as every other candidate). Personally if it were between Messier and some other coach who had a poor track record/system etc..I'd highly prefer the unknown than the given poor results.

Whoa okay, ummm. Let's be realistic here. AV doesn't have a cup. Bylsma does, and despite not having much playoff success he's still out performing AV in the playoffs win department and regular season win department...

Not sure how you classify him better.

I don't know if the bolded troubles me as much as this:

Occassionally it seems like Alain Vigneault is too slow to adjust to the opposition. Whether or not he's too slow to adjust or too tactically stubborn with how he wants to attack his opponents, this is something that has burned Vigneault and the Canucks on several occassions in the past.

Jesus, this sounds like some of what I absolutely hated out of Torts.

All in all, I am, however, happy with the signing. On to signing our RFA's, making a decision on Richards and MDZ, and the draft.

Unfair comparison. Penguins have had better teams (though of course the Canucks have had lots of great teams) and honestly a lot of results in the playoffs come down to luck. Even the biggest favorites this postseason where CHI/MIN and PIT/NYI and they were only given like 80% to each win those series. When it gets last you really don't have that large of an edge. Bylsma's results haven't looked so good the last couple of years when his goalies didn't make saves...how did AV's teams look when his goalies didn't make saves? Can't blame the coach for that.

Bylsma inherited the most talented team in hockey and, quite frankly, was carried by that team to a cup.

The last three years have shown that Bylsma isn't a very good coach. He can't keep his team disciplined at all...the lack of composure Pittsburgh had in the Boston series was disturbing.

How does that explain Bylsma taking a roster without Crosby/Malkin/Staal for half the year in 10-11 to 100+ pts?

Not sure why you wouldn't just slot Garrison into that top-4 RD spot seeing as how he played the right side with Hamhuis for most of the year. A Del Zotto - Tanev bottom pairing would be SWEET, but no way we give up Kesler for him (not directed at you).

Anyways, AV's an excellent coach -- probably one of the best in the league. I was a little disappointed to see him go but it was the right call. I'm definitely going to miss him for stuff like the video posted a few posts ago.
