No it's a dumb contract even if they win the whole thing with him making that much money.

That said, you can't really compare him and Panarin. Igor's playoff resume is already pretty legendary where as Panarin's is pretty bleak outside of a few OT goals.

I was joking, that then Panarin wouldn't be the highest paid player on the team 😄

Obviously paying one guy more money doesn't justify how much another guy is being paid.

Sorry my post was not up to your standards. We’ve had multiple coaches come in with some level of mandate to change how this team plays, and Paranin’s game has barely moved. He plays the way he wants to play.

And like I said, he produces. But you can’t tell me with a straight face that this guy has shown any level of adaptation across coaches. The only thing that has happened is taking his most enabling linemate (Strome) for someone who has the motor to make up for what Panarin refuses to do.

Panarin did start shooting more often last year, but I don't really think that had anything to do with Laviolette asking him to. Went from ~7.9 shots/60 (all strengths) in his first 4 years to ~10 shots/60 in his last two years.. though that was less this year than last year too. Still significantly higher than the first few years.

The thing about Quinn, Gallant, and Laviolette is that all three seemed to have a soft touch when it came to systems execution. Quinn was a micromanager, but not demanding. Gallant was hands-off in general. Laviolette was somewhere between the two. While they had a mandate to change how the team played, the method of employing that mandate wasn't demanding.

Sullivan is supposedly not that way. So, we'll see how that goes with Panarin.

Mother giggles asking about kids getting ice time....cashed that bet.

Dave Maloney with one of the weirdest setups to an opening question there has ever been. Stay in the radio booth sir.

well that's a bit of a shot across the bow given what we all know about the past 4 years of this team

@MollieeWalkerr

I asked new #NYR coach Mike Sullivan about his philosophy on managing young talent in this league:“I think that it really is an individualized process. I don’t think you can paint every player with the same brush. Everyone is different. Part of coaching or the art of coaching, I guess, is trying to figure out what that daily recipe is that’s best for the player. Sometimes it’s time in the American League as a young player, sometimes it’s time in the National League depending on the types of minutes that that player can play. What I will tell you is that I think it’s important that every player earns their opportunities, that no one’s entitled to an opportunity.”
