Rangers have lost 6 out of their last 7 games. What would you do if you were Dolan (the owner of the team) or Drury (the GM)?

My last thread got shut down. I guess it was considered premature.

So if you were Dolan or Drury in this moment, what would you do?
What would your analysis of the problem be?

These guys just came from competing in the ECF and winning a President's trophy. But clearly, they are struggling.

You've got a goalie who wants a $12m/year contract who just lost 5 straight games. You've got Trouba who blocked a trade over the summer and is playing AHL-caliber defense with an $8m cap hit.

You've got Miller, Fox, and Lindgren, all of whom look like they are playing like a shell of their former selves.

You've got Zib who looks lost out there and is signed for another 6 seasons at 8.5m.

Your team has relied on special teams and goaltending to carry them over the last 3 seasons.

The big problem is this - for the past 2 weeks or so, this team has arguably been the worst team in the NHL. Arguably, it's been longer than that but goaltending has totally bailed them out.

I would go so far to say that if Panarin or Shesterkin were not on the team (just one of those two) then this team could have the worst record in the NHL. They have carried everyone else. Special mention for Quick who has also played brilliantly when starting.

So if you ran this team, what would you do?

Do a line of blow and bang a hooker, like every one else in the sports industry. Though when you think about it, it's also the response to questions like

1. What do you do when you win a championship?
2. What do you do when you're eliminated from the playoffs?
3. What do you do when the coach gets fired?
4. What do you do when you're injured?
5. What do you do when you are signed with Edmonton or Winnipeg?
6. What do you do when practice is cancelled?
7. What do you do when you're not drafting in the first round?
8. What do you do when you're the backup goalie in between periods?
9. What do you do when you're a reliever in the bullpen?
10. What do you do when you just signed a $765,000,000.00 contract?

I could go on, but I think you get the point.

Rangers had the easiest schedule of any team their first 18 games. They only played 4 games vs legit contenders, 1 vs Senators, and 13 vs non playoff teams. Think that hid how flawed of a roster they were.

Edit: Jesus, now that I look at it, they have had to have had the easiest schedule their first 31 games of any team. Out of those 31 games, only 8 were vs real contenders. Jesus, what a cake schedule they’ve had so far.

It didn't hide anything. Evidence being Drury's blasting them before the wheels completely fell off.

The organization is cooked beyond toxic, and it will never change as long as Dolan draws breath
I'm just saying, the punishment here doesn't fit the crime. A social media team, whose job is to make players more relatable to their fanbase, is banned from traveling because someone had a meal with a player?

Nah, that doesn't pass the smell test.

I think part of the problem the Rangers are having right now -- and this is purely as an outsider -- is that they just traded their team captain and two of their alternate captains are Kreider and Zibanejad, which isn't exactly a pair of guys I would ever put a stripe on for any reason whatsoever. Throw in Vincent "I love me some me" Trocheck, plus a coach known for giving veterans a lot of rope... and you have a lot of talent producing very poor results.

To quote Dale Tallon, "Sometimes you have to shoot one of the hostages." Will be funny if it's Trocheck that gets chosen for that, again.

I didn't realize the NY Rangers had an ECHL franchise with the same name.

This is a storied franchise on a losing streak.. no one serious is considering Sean Avery to be the GM in 2024.
Storied franchise? They have arguably the most forgettable history of any original team. They have something like 13 retired numbers and a majority of hockey fans don’t even know who most of those players even are outside of Leetch, Richter, and Hank.

FTR.. I'm not a Rangers fan at all. Don't follow them and don't care. But they won the Presidents Trophy a season ago. Have several cups and have been in the league for almost a century. I did enjoy Leetch and Hank a lot to be honest.lol

If Bowman isn't working the phones with the Rangers then what the hell is he doing.

Several cups? One in 85 years.

From afar, I cant help but notice how the management of this team turned a pretty standard losing streak into a crisis.
Funny how this thread was created Dec 3 but the “6 of 7” descriptor in the title remains evergreen
