Gallant was a shit coach but he called the core out when they lost to NJ, it's a shame that management truly believed the players over him.
I don't know about that. He did say "it's nice to have talent but better to have work ethic" at one point here, but he talked about Game 7 like it was winnable or could have gone either way because it was 0-0 for a while (yet 99% of the entire game took place in the Rangers' d zone). He definitely seemed out of touch with his inability to implement a system, and no other team has given him a chance since.
Overall, it is true that the Rangers' core is simply not good enough, but it's also true that Gallant stunk.
