While we are on the subject of making suggestions, heres one for you - admit when a player stinks like McIlrath did last night. I obviously want him to eventually succeed, but he stunk the joint up last night. Theres really nothing wrong about that -- what I think is wrong is glossing it over because hes a top prospect on this team, or because you're a homer, or whatever.

Learn to read.

I never argued he had a good game, I am simply suggesting he isn't as bad as you are making him out to be. Tough concept? I guess so.

Of course the fact he was a top 10 pick over 3 years ago plays a role in it. If some bum off the street had a game like last night, I'd laugh it off because the organization wouldn't be heavily invested in him.

Regarding his development, he had issues with his knee so that buys him more time, but a top 10 pick making a mockery of a pre-season game 3+ years after he was drafted isn't exactly something to shrug off.

McIlrath made several mistakes last night, in different areas of the ice, covering nearly all the responsibilities a defenseman should have. Worst of all, he just looked overwhelmed after the terrible pinch on the first goal...overwhelmed by the speed, mostly. I thought he was, by far, the worst player on the ice for the Rangers the last 2 nights.

There is this thing called nerves? Maybe he they got the best of him?

BRB reads what he wants and then argues it even though the original post had little or nothing to do with what he is arguing.

I know, it's some sort of ****ing phenomenon around here.

"I think McIlrath looked like he tried to do too much, and had some ups and downs, I don't think we can make an assessment based on this game, but I imagine he winds up down in HFD to start the season."

Get's turned into.

"McIlrath was SO good you guys, he is a Norris finalist in my opinion, let's plan a parade."

Which he then argues with you about.

If you're not damning a player to hell you're a homer fanboy that doesn't know ****.

The opposite is also true. Critique a player in any way and you are hater that doesn't know ****.

So in the end, we are all fanboys/haters that doesn't know ****. Seems pretty accurate to me.

Probably true, the only critiques I generally disagree with to any extent are the over dramatic ones though.

Who is player A you referred to earlier?
Brian Boyle. (Bardof's arch-nemesis in case you're not getting the relevance of my commment).

There's definitely no shortage of strawmanning on this board.

I just think you're a little too eager to beat on the kid. He certainly made mistakes in many areas, but he also made very good plays in many areas. He looked like a kid who was over-eager and desperately trying to prove himself. By far the worst player on the ice both nights? Not even close, IMO.

Lets get one thing straight. I understand every word of what you're saying. I just happen to think its soft, weak, and in this case, wrong.

But McIlrath was able to stay upright on a few shifts, so I guess hes got that going for him if we want to accentuate the positive.

It's always the same people arguing. It's like what they say, same **** different day.

Anyway, I love Fasth's thinking. He's not one to just get rid of the puck because he's running out of space. He circles with the puck, protects it and looks for something. The ice in the SHL is bigger so there's a greater upside to doing that because of the additional space, time, and passing lanes. While its a little less so here, not many players hold on to pucks down low And move in tight spaces, or even tries. Jagr does that with his Dominant puck protecting skills and used to find giroux for a quick decisive play. Fasth is a pretty special piece IMO. He might need time getting used to the smaller ice, quicker game, and more physical space but his speed and ability to move himself and the puck in the offensive zone are upsides to keeping him.

So your excuse is ignorance? I would have stuck with skimming through posts and blindly arguing based on personal agenda and bias. It's the lesser of two evils.

So you are allowed to beat up on McIlrath and BU isn't allowed to accentuate the positives but you are allowed to do nothing but accentuate the positives with Stepan and I can't beat up on Stepan just for the sake of playing Devils Advocate?

Hypocrisy at its finest.

When he was 19 playing in the WJC he moved like Datsyuk does in the NHL. He is incredibly difficult to square up for a hit down low or anywhere when he has the puck. He is elusive.

The only question I have with Fast is how his body will hold up over 82 games in NA.

His skill is undeniable. Fun to watch him play.

Agreed. He's going to need to bulk up, but hopefully not at the expense of his speed and agility. Get him on the Carl Hagelin plan ASAP. Hags is a monster on the puck for a guy of his size. No reason Fast can't use that as the benchmark.

Fast already looks pretty strong, we'll have to see him against tougher competition to know for sure, but I liked what I saw. I think it's between him Kristo, and Pyatt for that 3rd line wing spot.

Here
I thought McIlrath had some decent shifts but some horrendous one's as well. That missed hip check was embarrassing. It didn't seem like he was too mobile out there at the NHL level. Disappointing.

Zuccarello and Brassard were very good. Their vision out there is unreal. I thought Pouliot worked well with them because they need a guy with some more size on that line. They need a finisher though and im not sure hes that (even though he buried that beauty of a feed from Brassard) I'd give him a shot though, because hes skilled.

Fast and Lindberg look like they can play in NHL. I thought Fast had a great game. He was all over the puck and made some nice decisions. But hell need to think the NHL game a little better. You can see that Lindberg is more seasoned in that regard, and even though he didnt show up on the scoresheet I think hes the type of depth player the Rangers can sneak out there and do some damage because he's responsible on both ends of the rink.

Dominic Moore has to be on this team. (Cant see why he wouldn't) He does so many good things on the ice on the forecheck and can actually pass and shoot. Huge upgrade over a depth guy like Powe from last year if you ask me. (its ashame that Powe is having such a good camp, but even with the goal last night I still don't have a shred of faith in him offensively)

So far in the first two games, Staal's and Moore's (John) play has stood out the most to me. Very encouraging to see.

Are you trying to ruin another prospect with the "Do what Hagelin does" method?!?

Dominic Moore and Benoit Pouliot look like very underrated signings for this team. Both skate very well and have an underrated edge to their game. I like them both.

Don't worry, Pouliot is a decent finisher.

Remember this?

I agree, but I'm always careful about preseason evaluations. I remember I though Adam Hall was going to take over the world.

He was knocked off the puck more often than I'd like, but I certainly don't think he's "weak" by any stretch. Loved his game, just needs some added strength and he has the potential to be a great addition.
