People are really overreacting on Kreider. He won't be with the team next season? He's done developing after a little more than one pro season? Give me a break with the hyperbole.

If when he does get called up and he still doesn't produce, what do you suppose the team will offer him coming off of his EIC? Food for thought.

Let me guess, if he was the property of some other team, you would be saying otherwise. I know 40 years of being a Ranger or whatever, but things that happened years ago have no bearing on what will next.

Has nothing to do with my being a fan for 55 yrs. We're in a cap world dude and if Kreider still doesn't produce, what in your divine wisdom do you think the team is going to offer him next year?

This isn't about what he will get on his next contract. It's about your response to Dactyl's post about him having the ability to become a Pacioretty like player. It was just my response to the overabundance of pessimism many posters (not just you) here have that use all their years fandom as the basis of their claims against the very team they root for. This franchise hasn't had a great track record, but I never believed in the past dictating future outcomes. Well at least in sports.

Great points!

There is always a reason to be a little scared when a player is struggling, because confidence is a mighty thing etc. But overall, there is no reason to not expect Kreider to become a solid player for us.

People STILL think Torts was the cause of our frustration last season? That's hilarious...

I am one of them and my notion is even more cemented after the first weeks under AV for sure.

We have a deep roster in terms of assets but we can't execute simple plays that like the Islanders execute on a regular basis. Guys like Fast and Allen come in and looks very poised with the puck in relation to guys like Girardi, McD and several others. That is -- not -- the result of lack of talent on this team but 100% the result of lack of preparation and due diligence by the coaching staff the last 3.5 years. The result of coaching a team, very much built from scratch, in the post-lockout NHL like a team was coached in say 2003.

Perhaps Pyatt can be termed the first "Vigneault guy".

If much of his usefulness is camping around the net and using his size -- which has been the strategy in the preseason from beginning to end -- then he fits in just fine.

Pyatt had good seasons under Vigneault in Vancouver. At that time, he had a share of minutes with top-six players if I remember correctly, but that's not really the point. The point is Vigneault knows Pyatt.

Maybe, but I don't know, who is Pyatt pusing out? Who is AV keeping Pyatt in favor of? Powe? Kreider?

I mean, Pyatt is a NHLer that can fill a number of positions on a NHL team. From my point of view, Pyatt has been kept in favor of players who either where competing for other roles than him (Powe) or players that needed to work on a number of areas of their game (Kreider).

I think Pyatt is still a bit of a mystery to Rangers fans. We know exactly what Zucc, Brass, Step, Cally, Hags, Nash, Richards, Boyle bring and what they can bring. Pyatt though.... I don't think his upsides were explored by Torts. In fact, I don't think Nash's upsides were explored fully either. Torts doesn't exactly use big bodies well.

I will give you a good reason. 22 in todays' s NHL is no longer all that young. Without looking, I would guess that there are more than 50 players in the NHL younger than Kreider.

If he is not permanently on the roster at some point this year I would bet he is gone from this team. We are talking about a player whose name has been tossed around as as a possible ROY. Anyone who is not disappointed in him at this point is not thinking clearly.

He has only this season to live up to the hype in order to remain a Ranger. Hopefully he does that and emerges. The door is starting to close.

I had a bad dinner last night. It is because Torts used to coach the Rangers.

I am a big Kreider guy but he didn't do enough to make the team. However, its not like the other guys actually stood out in training camp but they are on the team because of their contracts. Kreider needs to go down to the AHL and continue his play from last winter. He will get his opportunity. Look at the Rangers roster. JT Miller should on the 3rd line in the middle. Not on the 4th line playing the wing. Its funny that the Rangers 3rd line has Boyle in the middle and Pyatt on the wing. That worked so well in the lockout year. That's on Rangers management. The Rangers started out with Kreider-Boyle-Pyatt on their 3rd line. Poor Fast. It took Max Pacioretty 3 years to figure it out. Most of the players sent down will get their opportunities in New York. The Rangers roster has too many holes. Its the same roster as last season. They added a couple of depth players. They will still have trouble generating enough offense. 2nd round exit again.

I was once told anything can happen. Then it did. However, anything can happen, again!

Well, you gotta have been pretty darn blind to toss him around as a ROY candidate. Why don't you just listen to me, I told you this was what we were going to get and we got it.

Now I am saying that unless Kreider really lets the hype get to him, we will get a solid player in him. He needs to keep working hard.

You are lining up the posts today for sure lol.

Thats fringe argument type stuff, but the Kreider situation is very disappointing. This team's top LW is out, theres a new coach at the helm, and Ranger management continues to keep a roster spot warm for him over an 18 month period -- one that he can't take.

Whats worse is that the problem night in and night out for him if that he simply doesn't move his feet. He has no motor.

I would love to have been a fly on the wall when the powers that be decided to not buy out Richards. I'd love to know they were/are expecting of him.

3rd line center instead of Moore/Boyle. Going for it all this year since they can still fit him under the cap. Still have the option (barring injury) to buy him out next year. Leader in the room, experienced vet on a mostly youthful team. Only cup winner.

Sure, it's a roll of the dice, but it's not that hard to see why they kept him

In what everyone has admitted was clearly the worst professional year of his career, he was still on pace for 60 points.

Who was going to take his spot. The FA pool was mediocre. The center prospects aren't ready to make that jump and like it or not, he's still a productive player, even if he's not worth that contract.
